So the k24 timetable came into force on 10 December 2023. In this video we see what the new timetable has to offer.
Vordingborg now finally gets electric trains. 2 EB trains every weekday morning now start in Vordingborg and run all the way to Helsingør.
A new station was also opened. Favrholm, which lies between Allerød and Hillerød. The station will be served by S-train line A as well as local trains to/from Hundested.
On the Nordvestbanen, a single train from Østerport to Holbæk and back to Østerport will now be run with 3 IC4 sets.
The power to Holbæk will be put into use at the end of 2024, so we can hopefully get double-decker trains to Holbæk.
New Ellebjerg station changes name to Copenhagen Syd.
The station is changing its name because it is expected that Copenhagen South will be an international hub in the future with both international trains, long-distance trains, regional trains, S-trains, metro and buses.
The coastal railway will now have trains every quarter of an hour with stops at all stations between Helsingør and Næstved. Every other train will run via Roskilde and every other train via Køge.
Some of the Holbæk trains will be extended to/from Helsingør during rush hour and will be run by IC4. So diesel trains on the Coastal Railway will now be a fixed part of the timetable for 2024.
DSB has chosen to hand over the last 10 ET sets to Transdev and Skånetrafiken. As a result, DSB will be missing a great many trains. Therefore, in the next several years, fewer trains will be used. And it doesn't make it any better that Alstom is now late with the delivery of their Coradia Stream to DSB, and can only be delivered in 2027 at the earliest.
From k24, direct trains between Aarhus and Hamburg are also now over. Instead, DSB and DB are increasing their departures between Copenhagen and Hamburg from 3 to 5 departures a day. For summer, 7 departures plus an extra night departure with IC1 carriages. So up to 8 departures a day between Hamburg and Copenhagen. And on top of that, the Snälltåget and SJ night trains run on that stretch. So as many as 10 departures a day in the summer period in each direction.
And now that we are talking about night trains, ÖBB has just put their new nightjet carriages into operation between Hamburg and Austria at the transition to the timetable on 10 December 2023.
