I don't have any knowledge when it comes to resin figurines, never really cared to search them up. Most of the figures I like from Companies like Good Smile, all happen to be PVC so that's what i just buy lol

@@KenKen004 Most of them seem to be from mainstream shounen series, and there are very few waifu figures made from resin compared to the endless amount with Pvc. Resin is a more sturdy plastic that makes figures look more realistic, but they are also much more common to snap and break because of this hardness. They also do not warp and melt as easy as Pvc figures.

It makes no sense that they need to be opened though, what about the people who collect and never open the box or if the product were to stay on shelves for a long period of time? Shouldn't the box say something about needing it to air out?

I also had a figure from kotobukiya who had paint transfers on the plastic film after a year of being kept inside the box. Maybe, this isn't a natural thing that's why there are still people who choose not to open their boxes 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

The reason the figures become sticky is because of the plasticizer used when making them. This plasticizer is added to the PVC (the main material used in figures) in order to make it softer - the more mixed in with the PVC, the softer and more flexible it becomes. However, over a long period of time this plasticizer vaporizes, and when this happens while a figure is sealed up in it’s box the vaporized plasticizer has nowhere to go, and thus sticks onto the surface of the figure creating a sticky layer.
