Love when he goes deep into the weeds at the in minute mark, and if i replay it enough I might be able to grasp some of the concept, great video.

That was one of the best descriptions of speaker amp interactions I’ve heard. So many struggle explaining this in a way that makes any sense to a non electrical engineer. I really wish you could do a 4th episode when you dive a little deeper into that explanation. Just a bit. The speaker amp matching mystery, even after 40 years in this hobby, is still hard to understand. Back in the day, one might be able to rely on a dealer to help with this, but these days, that’s a tricky thing for a lot of people - and frankly, I don’t think a lot of dealer sales people really get it.

From my understanding it seems the wilder the impedance curve has a bigger play on amp performance. I always liken it towards resisting a 100 lb kid trying to drag you to the video game section vs a 20 lb cat fighting like hell to avoid the vet lol.

So glad you brought up impedance which led to a wonderful explanation of amp/speaker interaction. Most people (including many speaker builders) give zero recognition to the fact that tube amps want to see a smooth and predictable "resistive" load. They don't want to see a "capacitive" load with speakers that jump from 8 ohms to 2 ohms...etc. John gets this and his products show it! Thanks again for the interview.

Great audiophile and intellectual discourse Ken. John’s technical understanding somewhat blew me away. Like him I’m an audiophile and art school graduate whom tinkered with DIY speakers as a young man, but John is a lot more smarter than me. I still lust after a pair of his Orangutan 0/96’s which are on my bucket list. Great entertainment thanks.

The discussion about economic risks, etc. is fascinating. I’ve never heard this kind of background info.

Always a treat to listen to john. Love his channel. Always learn something from him. He had some great insight when talking efficiency with single ended tube gear. No video would be complete without lulubear 😀

II finally understand the difficulties that can occur between amplifiers and speakers. Thank you for the explanation! 😁 👍🏻

Always great to hear from an artist who makes speakers. Can’t wait for the new reviews, sir!

This is one hell of an interview. The clarity given complex topics is outstanding and most appreciated, although I admit the ability to hit "replay" didn't hurt, either! 😀 I also like that Ken's questions allowed John the space to break things down in a way not often seen in this format. Who knew that speaker building was such a "circular process"? Not me! I was of the "here's my crossover, here's my woofer, etc. Now let's make it work" school. (Which is probably why there are no speakers out there with my name on 'em!)BTW,I hereby will no longer rake Devore over the coals for pricing. His comments as to why "the o-baby became less the less expensive of the" newer models was the clarification I was hoping for. Lastly-also spk of costs-ya gotta respect a guy who says "any 12" stand will work-you can find them on etsy" as he did in pt.1 I mean, the "well,we don't yet have a price on the stands because we're making some last minute modifications-rest assured they will perfectly compliment the speakers and will be essential to hear them at their OPTIMUM performance!" That's not what John said, nor is it his approach to marketing. No hype needed. That, in part, is why I loved the clarity given to the "circular process"of speaker design-because at the end of it lies a speaker that will be well worth owning. Without the hype. Thank you, gentlemen. 🙂

Awesome show. Informative. Fascinating. I keep seeing his speakers for sale, pre-owned. Very intriguing! Gonna have to lean on Santa, maybe.

John designs the crossover for his speakers. Does Devore Fidelity manufacture or build the crossovers for all his speakers? The amp/speaker interaction was very interesting showing that the Orangutan speakers pair best with Tube amps.

Different colors tell different things to John about the record, Whether he wants to listen to it again for a particular reason, are use it to judge An aspect of sound, etc.
