Is the filter housing supposed to drop water after you pull out the replacement cartridge? The pan under the filter housing keeps filling up with water and over flowing my pan and spill out in front of my fridge. I thought at first I didn’t properly snap my replacement filter in all the way. But I have done this a couple of times and that seems to snap in fine. But this last time with a flashlight I noticed the filter housing on the back is dripping water at a steady rate and that the housing itself has a cut out hole underneath and that drip over night is filling up the pan and causing a over flow leak of water on a daily basis. I just didn’t know if I had a bad replacement filter? Or a bad filter housing part? Any info would be greatly appreciated… thank you

Mine was doing the same thing. I watched a couple of videos on replacing and fixing it and it seemed that minerals in the water could build on the inside of the filter housing where the filter points go in. Instead of replacing the whole thing, or taking it apart to clean it, I took a straw cleaner and used tongs to get it far enough back, and just cleaned the walls of the ports, scrubbing back and forth, to remove any mineral deposits that were keeping the seals from working. I put the old filter cartridge back in and no leaks!

Ty your instructions were very helpful. I ordered a new housing as the original came appart between the hose connection area and the main filter shroud. I did not want to take a chance the old housing would leak. I also figured there is a tray to catch the water when changing filter and should leave the tape in place.

If you’ve worked on cars you’ll have no problem dojng this without disconnecting the line in the back. Just have to reach back and work blind by feel back there to release the lines. Found mine was leaking into the drain pan without me knowing. Mine was so warn you couldn’t twist filters in.

When you are connecting the tubes to your water filter housing connections which one connects the intake from the water source and which is sending it back to the water pump mechanism in the back of the fridge. Your arm was blocking that part. In other words looking at the plastic filter container for the water filter installed from the front of the fridge,,and your tube connections are to the left, which is the top connector for and which is the bottom for. Thanks!

Idk if you’ll see this due to being so old of a video But my Kenmore side by side model series 55471 has water & ice dispenser but NO FILTER .. we have all searched the fridge up and down, left & right .. even at the very bottom where you’ve shown some to be … ANYONE??? We are not naive lols .. but literally no where’s to be found … help please Why would it have water and crushed ice but no filter? Thanks

My ice maker was not making very big pieces and my water was only dispensing 10oz per minute. After replacing the water filter housing, ice is back to normal size and water is dispensing 45oz per minute!

Good vid bud. Is there any way I can cap off the line running to the water filter?? Reason I ask is that we don't use the filter anyway and the 2 lines coming outta the filter housing are leaking.

Man I don't know the model #. It's approx 17 yrs old Kenmore side by side. The internal under the plastic grill look almost the same. The way the filter goes in and out is a lil different but that's it. When you pulled the back cover/paper board off it looks identical. I just wondering if I can some how cap off or keep the water flow from going to the filter housing but still go to the ice maker. My filter housing is leaking at the 2 in and outflow tubes that go to the housing and ultimately the water filter. Thanks, Eddie Sent from my iPhone

I had an issue where mine stopped working with water filters in place. We could get water and ice when the filter was removed. One day, water started pouring out of the filter housing. Evidently whatever let it work without the filter in place no longer held. I read about filter housing replacement and the problem with Kenmore filters (that we experienced). I figured it would cost over $200 to replace the filter housing and get a new filter. Given that we have been drinking straight tap water (city water) when the refrigerator water was not working, my solution was to completely bypass the filter. Bypassing the filter: - took the two machine screws out to get to the hose that goes from the filter output to the fill valve input - removed the filter output hose where it enters the fill valves for water and ice - removed the input hose where it goes into the filter. Given that I was bypassing the filter housing, I just used an exacto knife to cut if off right where it entered the filter - cleaned up the cut end on the filter input hose (this is the ones that's connected to the hose coming from your water source - pushed the input hose into the fill valve - remounted the filter valve with the two machine screws Both water and ice work and don't need to replace filters in the future.

​@@pathamrock4320that's great that you got to where you wanted to go!.....but you are drinking unfiltered water....no big deal for some or most as I use to think...but after drinking filtered water for years out of my Kenmore SbyS...filtered tastes a whole lot better than tap...!!
