I am at 20:00 and still hasn’t heard the guests mentioning Kennan’s most recent prediction from late 90s that the expansion of NATO is a wrong proposition and may cause a disaster … if the meeting went without this critical aspect being discussed then that title is quite ironic … talking about Kennan and not mentioning his second prophecy (First about the demise of SU and the second about NATO expansion likely causing geological conflicts) makes no sense

Secretary Gates view that the Kursk counterattack by Ukraine was a strategic mistake may prove true. However, if your family, relatives, friends, and fellow citizens are being killed by the hundreds daily at the hands of a ruthless aggressor, and you saw a profound weakness in than aggressor that if attacked would prove one of the saber rattling lies of the aggressor (nuke use), would you not exploit that weakness?

Why u expand nato despite promises?
@PerWagnerNielsen4 күн бұрын
There has been no NATO expansion, only a NATO enlargement of countries who wanted to join, voluntary. According to the UN treaty all countries are free to choose their own foreign policy. Russia has signed up to this as well. What the UN treaty doesn't allow is wars of aggression, like the war Russia is pursuing in Ukraine. There was never any agreement not to enlarge NATO.

@@PerWagnerNielsen Wow you are an amazing sophist. What will USA do if Mexico voluntarily wanted to join russian or Chinese military alliance and put there missiles in Mexico.

Promises? Like ssPutin’s “promises?” NATO doesn’t need to solicit to expand. ssPutin is driving countries to beg for NATO entry.

@@PerWagnerNielsenWhen George W. Bush, in 2008, declared that Ukraine would be aligned with NATO, a significant majority of Ukrainianians opposed such a move, as did Spain, France, Italy and Germany. After 1991, the US spent $5 billion dollars in Ukraine according to Victoria Nuland. US/NATO intervention in Serbia, Iraq and Libya rode roughshod over international law. Circa 2001 George W Bush withdrew from the anti-ballistic missile treaty while pursuing, promoting and funding missile defence shield systems thus undermining a key pillar of arms control/non-proliferation agreements. He announced a headstrong belligerent policy goal of eastward NATO expansion, significantly increased military spending then launched the invasion of Iraq on bogus evidence. The expansion of NATO into the Baltic countries caused widespread disquiet and distress within Russia's political and military establishment. A vote in the Russian parliament overwhelmingly backed a change in Russian defence and nuclear policy.
