I just got a larger Kennedy box from a swap meet for 15 bucks, and I was really just looking for a video to see how someone went about this, the box is rough but its not dented or broken at all. just rusty and well, old. I plan on restoring it. I just want to say your craftsmanship is amazing, not many folks my age who will carry on those skills, great work. I see below that TY loved your extra work as well.

Hi Jon, nice job on the box, messing whith that contact glue can be tricky sometimes, but you did it right on,lol, the leather key fob was a nice touch, your friend will be pleased to start using it.I have a Kennedy box from around ww11, the top lid has rounded edges whith 2 extra fasteners, the inside is dark crackle finish, I've had it for 50 yrs ,and it's still going strong, thanks for the video, looking forward to the next one, Best wishes, Stuart uk.

The box came out great Jon. I like the black felt on the green box. I was skeptical about going up the sides in the top because Kennedy never did that. I like it. I'm going to do that for the next one I re-felt. I have a bunch of the 520s and just recently acquired 2 526s. I can't wait till I run into a 3 drawer like that one to add to the collection. Great job.

I'd have been tempted to paint the box. But upon reflection I realized that you were absolutely right to leave it be. I guess that there's a lesson here. If there is no rust to speak of or serious dents requiring bondo, heck, keep the original finish. It really does look nice and you did a super job with the felt. Thanks for another great video.

I suggest using graphite powder as the lubricant on the slides. No buildup from debris and dirt and is butter smooth so it will stay smooth longer and makes reapplication easier since you don't have to remove the old stuff in a few years. Also doesn't have that death smell that some lubricants have.

@RightOnJonCrane Жыл бұрын
Right On! 🙌Thanks for watching David! These really hold their value. In good condition a box like this can go between $200 and $300. This three drawer in green is kind of rare. So many of these were made in brown. You have a great treasure 👍

I have a three-drawer Kennedy that size except the drawer dividers are a little different and tbe bottom drawer is a little more shallow. I now plan to restore it as you did this one. Too bad my orriginal latch was replaced with a hasp.

I know this is an older video but i just inherited an old kennedy toolbox 5 or 6 drawer. But im curious if you know how to repair a bent slide on one. It no longer allows the drawer to be pushed fully back

Was this a model #620? I'm restoring a green one. I was wondering if those two bars inside the lid looked like factory? And also, the draw dividers? Mine had neither.
@jmcc6852 жыл бұрын
The next guy to restore the box will loathe your use of Super 77. I suggest using hide glue like Gerstner so the felt can be easily removed with hot water.

Did you paint? Am I missing something?
@QuietRiverBear8 ай бұрын
Hello. I just picked up a Kennedy Bighorn that looks just like this one, except for the drawer pulls. Do you know if the Bighorn and 620 are the same size? Mine is missing the drop front and since I’m not flipping it, I was considering getting a new front from Kennedy.
@RightOnJonCrane8 ай бұрын
Right On! 🙌 that’s a nice box! I’m not sure if the bighorn and the 620 are identical? It could be because the Bighorn turned into the 620 at some point. I’m not sure if they made any slight changes. Wish I was more help! Enjoy your box!

@@RightOnJonCrane thank you. It needs a little TLC before it lives on my bench but the price was right with a handful of old tools.

Had no idea Kennedy used anything other than brown, I wonder if there's other colors they have used or just brown and green.
@RightOnJonCrane4 жыл бұрын
Right on Raw Bacon ! 🥓 😂 All I can find out is that Kennedy did short runs of different colors long ago. I guess they did red for another company and blue. But all are pretty rare to find.
@MrPhil19694 жыл бұрын
Kennedy contracted with Sears and Montgomery Ward to rebrand their boxes for sale in the respective stores. Some of the Sears Craftsman boxes were mostly the krinkle brown that we are used to but some were painted in the classic hammertone silver. Montgomery Ward's house brand was PowerKraft and those boxes were painted in a hammertone gold. It is my understanding that the green boxes were military supply.

@@RightOnJonCrane my issue is bending the channel on the side of the drawer around the guide rail without it pinching and binding up. How can it be bent where the same radius is kept?
@rong-man15022 жыл бұрын
The problem with the felt and glue could easily be eliminated by simply using rubberized drawer liner.
