Kenny has the real essence inside his soul. Not many of these country blues based artists growing in the blues forest.

The key to the whole song is the last verse. It starts out so sweet with him promising his girl racetrack winnings ( if he wins ...subtle but definite flag ). Then the vivid chilling violent images unfurl for next couple verses. Finally finishing with " You Don't Know my Mind " but he adds " wretched " and emphasizes it. The singer reviles himself and knows how wrong he is just as much as the critics. It's a cry for help in a way . Great song.

So what did the critics say??

It is a very compelling tune and refrain...but the words are very, very dark. An interesting upload.

This Tune Is Part Of The Fat Possum "Dark Blues" Series. Dark Blues, When You Get Into It, Allows You To Reflex On The Negatives Of Life...Examine Your Conscience. You Will Find It Difficult To Keep A Dry Eye When Your Mind Absorbs The Lyrics/Music Of The "Dark Blues"!

It's an old blues song, Leadbelly was one of the first recording but yeah RL took Kenny under his wing.

This sounds a lot like Leadbelly's song. If this isn't a cover it's a very close variation! Still cool.
