I think Kenny is spot on about waiting until one has lived it, to dig down deep in people's heart's. This song touches deep into my core, I think it is one of his best! It is fairly obvious that Grace Potter has lived this song too. I saw a group of people on one of the country awards shows that they sang this and I couldn't believe the lack of accolades, guess they couldn't grasp the sincerity and beauty that night. Love this....obviously 😎

It is absolutely beautiful. Who ever wrote this song has felt this pain. I can relate I'm sure a lot of us can. I read some of the comments and there is one in particular that caught my attention. Great song! Songs are meant to be sung! My only problem with folks who sing other peoples songs is when they are asked to comment about it, like inthis case, they fail to mention where they heard it or who wrote it! But I will say its a good cover! Now im going to listen to some Charlie!!!

This song means so much to me as I've lost a love and have no idea where she is, but she was broken and needed to heal, which I respect. But it still left a hole in my heart and I'd just like to know if she's doing okay because she was my first actual true love... we were even talking about marriage, but her jackass ex husband had traumatized her so much that she just needed to be independent and free. I still love her after 6 years since she left.

this is why i started listening to and sharing Kenny Chesney. i never paid attention to him before a couple years ago because I associated him with partying and that's not my lifestyle. but then a friend of mine who used to work for Kenny was talking about him one day and opened my eyes to the depth of this man. i started learning that he wanted to be a father and he has helped people who work for him in massive life changing ways. Learning things about him as a man that are never heard through the awful media. the first song i fell in love with after i started really paying attention to Kenny Chesney was Wild Child, as if it was written about me. then i saw him in concert, front row at Mohegan Sun, and although i have seen hundreds of concerts, in every music genre, his was the best i'd ever experienced, because he made an effort to bond and connect with EVERYONE, and it was beautiful to see how grateful and generous he is from the inside out. i went to see him with my friend who used to work with him at Kenny's favorite venue, Gillette's Stadium, with back stage passes, and while I never saw Kenny, I did see Miranda Lambert crying on stage and with how deeply she needed a bonded connection during the hardest time of her life (not saying it was ok to cheat, just saying the circumstances taught her a deep lesson and she was in need of a friend), and you could just tell how appreciative she was when she said that "Kenny Chesney is the nicest person in the music business." Since, I have watched countless interviews with Kenny talking, sharing his heart and soul with the world, and I am SO IMPRESSED BY THIS MAN that I share his music and interviews at least once a month, and every time I am having a bad day with my heart hurting because the world is so hard, like today, Mother's Day, childless, in the same boat as he is in, wishing I had made some different choicesto be more connected on a deep level with a spouse and settled into a family of my own, whether I could have or not since wanting to be a parent and having children are very very different things because things have a way of working out the way they do no matter how you feel about it. And all we CAN do is to be our personal best version of ourselves with HOPE in our hearts that someday we experience those things that we long so deeply for... I'm very proud of Kenny Chesney for being the man he has become, and for the inspiration of hope, love, and fun that he brings to people's lives. Days like today, I appreciate him most, because I have been listening, dancing, laughing, and crying with a sweet softness that is ONLY learned from NOT getting what you want over a prolonged period, that which makes us into a refined better version of ourselves, so that when true love DOES come, we CAN appreciate it even when the bad days come, to make it last with a deep bond. One of my best friend's Tonia who has been with her husband since she was 15 said this to me once that is priceless advice: "Relationships have an ebb and a flow and you just have to go with the flow. You have bad days and good days, and just because you have a bad day doesn't mean that the next day won't be a great day. You just have to get through today to get there."

Just like "Old Bird Dog," Kenny didn't just cover this song, he made it his own. We all know he has a way of touching our souls with his own songs and lyrics, but he can take others' words and give them new life, new meaning, better than anyone I've ever heard. This song went from a really cool song when Charlie did it, to something out of this world coming from Kenny.

Music tastes are so personal and to debate these two versions seems futile. Personally I love Charlie's version, but I love Charlie Robison and Texas Country 100 times more than Nashville and mainstream country radio. However, my dear wife loves Kenny and I think he does an ok version here. However I disagree completely with the assertion made by jimlips that Kenny is better due to the amount of hits and sales he has. Sorry but artists like Charlie are not even given a sniff by Country Radio because, ironically, they are too country. Nashville is Pop Country and it is what sells. That's fine and it's the reality of the business, but in no way does it make those artists better than artists like Charlie Robison.

I may be the odd person out, but I listened to Charlie Robison's version & while it's good, it didn't touch me quite like this version. Different music touches different people in different ways. Don't be a nag about it. Music is made to be shared & to make people feel. KC's version touches me...it feels good.

Everyone who thinks Charlie Robison's version is better, go ahead and keep listening to it. Charlie has had 9 albums, none of the songs got higher than #35 on the US Country charts. Kenny has had 30 top ten singles, 15 albums (14 went gold or higher). Kenny's voice is far better to listen to than Charlie's (IMHO), and Grace Potter sings wonderful harmony. That is what really got my attention about this song. If you can't say something good, say nothing at all.
