I love the story behind this song. Loggins and co-writer Michael McDonald were trying to come up with a love ballad, but they weren't coming up with anything. During this time, Loggins' father was battling a serious illness and was feeling defeated and wanted to give up the fight. Loggins wrote this song for his dad.

"Don't Fight It" is the song with Steve Perry. ANOTHER song that the "Classic Hits Of The 70’s & 80's" type stations totally forgot about! There is so much great forgotten music that radio ignores. Kenny Loggins was a lover of soul music and if you go into his albums, his forays into R&B were always so fantastic. This was one of his bigger hits, but later songs such as Love Will Follow (especially in a live version featuring Shanice…), Too Early for the Sun, Sweet Reunion, Now That I Know Love (a song written for The Winans), and Rest of your Life (written with the amazing Jonathan Butler…) show off that soulful side, and that he could’ve ridden an R&B wave had those been promoted like his pop songs. Hope you check some of these out in the future.
