That RD is pretty small - how many friends did you have on it? Joking of course. I had a friend in HS he had a Suzuki 500 twin. I saw him with as many as 3 more on the bike.

A great illustration of huge competitiveness, but also 100% trust, between two sporting giants in motorcycling....
What a race Bazza 🇬🇧 and King Kenny 🇺🇸 where the class of the field during the late 70s and early 80s and the 1979 British MotoGP is the best example of why they where the best in there time RIP Bazza 🇬🇧🏍🇬🇧🏍🇬🇧🏍🇬🇧

It's great that Roberts and Sheene were able to become good friends. I was a late comer to motorcycles, 30 when I started in dirt bikes, but I did get to see Roberts race the dirt in person at Santa Fe Park, which was near my house and at Indy, Du Quion, Peoria, before he left for Europe.

I'm younger and also came to MotoGP 2 years ago, didn't know much about the sport's history. Watching these old clips I'm struck by how raw and direct the scene is, these days it's more managed and contained. I couldn't imagine the riders digging out one of the Dorna administrators on camera like Barry Sheen at the start of this clip. I don't necessarily agree the racing is THAT much different, I think that's probably a side effect of growing older and the good old days, although there is a lot that has been lost in the culture of the sport for sure. The new version has its appeal in a different way, more tech and militaristic somehow.

I find it curious as Kenny was wearing a Goodyear cap. At that time I was working as an apprentice at the Goodyear factory in Sydney Australia. It was behind Rose hill racecourse. We had a heap of slicks stored there no one wanted. Story was they would blister at high speed, ie Conrad.

New to the bike racing (motoGP and other series) fandom, I have found watching the older races where the announcers didn't talk through the whole race, rather only announcing key events etc... seems so much better. IDK... as I said, I'm new..

Poor old Barry. Like any real racer all he ever wanted was to get on his bike and race and being surrounded by officious officials just got on his tits. I'd seen the clip below a few times before an Aussie mate told me that the commentator was Barry Sheene after he had moved to Oz because the weather in Britain gave him such pain in the nuts and bolts that were holding his body together: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKDSoKtsncedsK8
