Growing up in the 70's Barry Sheene was my absolute hero. Watching him pass Kenny Roberts then flick the vee's at him during the '79 Silverstone GP was epic. In other news, full marks to Fagan for riding a 500cc hand grenade without a working rev counter.

Gawd, that took me back. How I lusted after an RG500 as a young biker in the '80s. When the 650 hit the powerband and the exhaust note changed, it reminded me of my stupidly tuned RD250LC, nothing 'til 8000 then pull your arms off all the way to 12000. I am a car man now, but if I were to go back to bikes it would have to be a two stroke! Brilliant stuff, great footage.

You jammy bastard ! I’m old enough to have seen the 500’s from the mid 70’s when we were kids and my mates grandad used to take us to Silverstone our local circuit so I saw Sheene in his prime and through to Rainy and Schwantz in the early 90’s. I’ll never forget the sound of a grid full of them at full chat.

*Rode my Pepsi Suzuki RG500 C Series (1989 Reg one of the last made) at Cadwell some years ago and after a few laps the tyres were fried bacon on the edges, and had to go out for more fuel as probably used around 10 mpg ! - thought a bit unfair as put in the 1000cc class with Blackbirds etc that could accelerate faster on the straights but I was quicker on the corners. At the end of the session ended up 3rd which I still think of as a win. Have some Video somewhere but can't find it !*

For anyone wondering why the tail pipes on the exhaust look so narrow its because the general rule of thumb on a stroker is that the exhaust should be circa half the diameter than the exhaust port on the barrel.
