This song is a masterpiece by Kenny Rogers and written by Lionel Richie.....amazing
@ginnywithag50464 жыл бұрын
Also, something to remember about Lionel, he most like at the time Kenny met with him about "Lady", he had a very big hit, of another romantic song, "Once, Twice, Three Times a Lady". That stayed popular for a long while. I can't recall for sure, but I am thinking there was a period of time , that both of these songs were in the charts at the same time. I may be wrong about that. Funny too, I remember guessing correctly to win a game of Charade's with the answer being, "Once, Twice, Three Times a Lady". 🎵♥️🎶🎤🎶♥️🎵

The Commodores made a huge mistake turning down this song. And Kenny was wise to get it when Lionel pitched it. As a matter of fact, he only had a couple lines written and the tune. He ran into the bathroom and whipped out the entire song when Kenny said he wanted it, lol. Lionel Ritchie was brilliant.

@@TreeFreak Many many of the greatest songs of all time were written in just a few short minutes. One that comes to mind immediately is Jim Croce's "I'll have to say I love you in a song." After he and his wife got into an argument, he went upstairs, wrote the song, then came back down to sing it to her.

I sang this song to my wife on our 40th wedding anniversary ceremony last year when I asked my wife to marry me again. I intended it to be for our fiftieth but, I just couldn't wait. There was no elaborate ceremony. No joint planning, She never suspected a thing. I simply made arrangements for a simple afternoon lunch on the beach. It just so happened that our family and friends were there along with our priest for the lunch date. I proposed to her again and our priest stood up and said let no one or nothing ever separate this love that God Almighty in His Wisdom hath brought together. It wasn't elaborate. It was just me in my simple way letting her know that she is the love of my life. She's my lady. God Almighty Blessed me with her. I just wanted her to know how much I love her. How very special she is to me.

Here's a random fact. Kenny backed a kid named Don Henley, who was in a band then, and helped him get to LA, where he played the circuit, met Glen Frey, and lived next door to Jackson Browne. He and Glen sang with Linda Ronstadt then eventually formed a new band. While in the desert on a Peyote trip, they saw an Eagle fly over them. They named their band after it. Bob Seger backed Glenn but that's another story.

Kenny Rogers was the best. He just passed saw him in 2011 in concert aurora Illinois he was fabulous. Told great stories just had twin 5 year old boys. They would be 14 now. Married several times. First wife left him on advice of her mother when he was struggling playing dive clubs with his guitar. He went on to earn millions and millions. Saw the first wife in an interview a few years ago. She looked like she just at a lemon. Real dumb move. He I believe helped the daughter he had with her. He had a lot of marriages and kids

Now that I’m much older, I can appreciate country artists and country music. Watching this particular performance of Kenny’s (now) is very touching and I felt every word. Lionel Ritchie handed this song over to Kenny when the members of Lionel's band at the time, The Commodores elected not to include it on their album. As Rodgers says, Lionel pitched the song to the band having only one word, "Lady", and a sketch of chords. Ritchie is, IMHO, the greatest writer of love songs in the pop era. Try Lionel doing, "My Love", "Sail On (my favorite)", "Easy", "Penny Lover", "Truly", "You Are", and "Ballerina Girl".

Kenny's sexy raspy voice teamed with Lionel's incredible lyrics are a one, two punch to your heart & soul. This is an awesome rabbit hole for you to explore further down. May I suggest the following - Through the years, She believes in me, You decorated my life, We've got tonight, Don't fall in love with a dreamer, & his famous duet with Dolly Parton on Islands in the stream (written by the Bee Gees). Kenny left us early last year at the age of 80...RIP. He was an incredible story teller & you can see that in some of his biggest hits - The Gambler, Lucille, & Coward of the county (my favorite Kenny Rogers song), among many others...
