Very nice walk. I also enjoy watching Robert at Sidestep Adventures, Georgia, USA as he explores abandoned and forgotten graveyards and cemeteries. Some of them, while young by the standards there in the UK, are quite old for us, occasionally dating to the 1600s. God bless, Rob

Robert is so nice to watch. And yes the graves here in Europe are very old. The oldest i found here in Holland was from 1600 and the inscription sounded cruel but would be normal in those times. It was something about he was sick and rotten from the inside and eaten by disease and now he was food for the worms ( on a grave of a kid who was 10 years old🙈)

Why are such large areas of even some of the most beautiful cemeteries so unkempt and overgrown?

It is a matter of cost. Once a graveyard is full there is no further money coming in to pay the wages to keep up appearances. Often those graveyards that are cleared are done by volunteers.
