Combat is a primary part of Kenshi, and all combat except for martial arts is done with weapons. So in this video i will show you best weapon in Kenshi. Weapons are items that are split into multiple categories, each dealing different types and amounts of damage. Armour is designed to reduce damage, and can be bypassed by using certain weapons. Weapons can be looted, purchased from a Weapons Trader, or crafted by the player.

I'm a big fan of my troops using polearms until they have the strength to wield falling suns. I feel like polearms are an all around great starting weapon cause they're fast, have good reach, train strength and dex, and have armor pen. The extra dmg on animals is just icing on the cake

Yeah I like polearms and the Paladins Cross until they are ready for the falling sun. I like Paladins Cross as well because I feel the 30% armor off sets the -10% against humans, it has great reach, and 50% against Robots is great considering how dangerous skeletons opponents are.

I just started as a Greenboi and hired two more greenbois. We made off with the Holy Nation's Paladin's Crosses (and heavy armor) before we started training. They'll serve until I get Falling Suns.

Two months later. Whole 30-man squad has Falling Suns and 70~ Strength. Got a P4 Unit Skeleton to be my weaponsmith, I'll be churning out Edge 2 Faling Suns and Short-Cleavers, as well as Desert Sabres (Skin Spider land, southwest) and Paladin's Crosses (Robot hell, southeast)

Polearms to me are the best weapon type. Polearm got good armor penetration, damage against all animal and good reach. Naginata traded armor penetration and blunt for more cut and less weight, suitable for newbies. Naginata Katana further add Katana traits making it useful against humans. Staffs are extremely cheap to buy, Edge Type 3 cost around 8k cats and good for early STR training. Not to mention they has *light* sweeping attack similar to Katana and Sabre, this attack only trigger when target is already in range of weapon reach. the differences between light sweeping attack and normal sweeping attack is that, damage per hits are the same but light version got shorter animation and no backswing delay, allowing user to aggressively attack more than 2x the speed compare to normal sweeping attack and start the next attack almost immediately. This can trigger very easily with polearm thank to it long reach. light sweeping can make a big difference in group combat, especially when one side get outnumbered, 2+ squads spam light sweeping can not only near stunlock and deal massive dps on a target but also create AoE effect to aid others in combat at insane rate as well! As a cherry on top, 1 squad can bring at least 2 polearm, 1 Polearm for animal, robot and armored and 1 Naginata Katana for unarmored, now you're all-round for any situation.

I like how versatile Falling Sun is, it can do pretty well in 1v1 and also nice against groups, the only problem is it weight ( and indoor combats) , nothing that strenght training cant solve.

@@ironstrong3431 Of course Meitou Falling Sun, is not suitable for beginners, because the minimum requirements for this weapon are 80 str. but still better than the minimum requirements for meitou Fragment Axe , which are 144. My main character has str. 153 and can not use the Fragment Axe effectively. Meitou Plank requires str. 96 so Falling Sun is the lightest heavy weapon.

What I love about Kenshi is that every weapon can be a complete beast in skilled character's hands. Now, martial arts are amazing, no question here - but without mods, the dodge animations are a bit too long and may hamper you against multiple opponends. Still - for raw damage output, nothing beats it, it just can't be contested. BUT they need a lot of dedication and time to train. Various katana type weapons are good early on, but fall off against anything that wears armour. Jittes are probably the best overall choice for characters with low fighting stats - non-combatants in your outpost, due to defensive bonus and no attack penalties. They are also very solid for taking prisoners. Polearms are good and underrated - they won't do much damage, but come with good range, good bonuses against animals and often other targets. They are versatile and cool, as long as you don't mind lower damage output. Paladins cross is one of my favourites - it is like a lighter plank with reasonable str requirements. It comes with some penalties against humans and animals, but they are really small. All heavies are good if you can handle them, and they are my general favourites. BUT they come with a caveat - Meitou are not essentially the best choice for planks and fragments axes because of horrendous str requirements and weight. Falling sun has no drawbacks, other than minor indoors fighting def penalty, which all heavy weapons share and mediocre range. It has massive bonuses against some of the toughest animals, but lacks any bonuses against humanoid opponents. Still, sheer versatility is amazing, and it is reasonably light. Fragment axes - good range, monstrous damage, no real penalties or bonuses to speak of. If not for their insane weight, they would be perfect weapons in my book. As it stands, you need robotic arms to wield the heaviest of them, but even lower qualities often outperform lesser weapons, so there is that. The weight hampers you severely the second you get wounded. And finally my personal favourite - the humble plank. It is basically a lighter fragment axe with more even damage distribution and far more lenient requirements. It takes a while to be able to equip one, but once you can use even the weakest of them, you may simply keep using them - they will serve you well for the most part.

I would argue that the weapon literally called "Polearm" is the best weapon in the game. 1. High Attack Speed/Blocking. Literally, out of this world sometimes. I thought Katana Class was fast but these top it easily in my opinion. 2. Low State Requirements. Base Dex/Strength Requirements isn't very high even for a Type 3. Making it excellent weapon for new Faction recruits as long as you stick to mid tier ones for them. 3. High Range, almost in the same category as a Fragment Axe or Plank. 4. Excellent for Skill Training. Fast Attacks with wide reach = lots of hits = more exp for Melee Attack, Dex and STR. Higher chance to Block = Better Melee Defense gain was well. Again refer to point 2, and again it's why it's an excellent weapon for early recruits. Though the base damage in cut/blunt is normally half that of say a Plank of the same quality tier it makes up for it in attack speed, block speed and armor penetration. People also forget staying power. If you're using a Type 3 Plank and your character barely meets the STR requirements, it only takes a few hits/damage taken to start seeing an attack speed penalty. With a Type 3 Polearm you character literally has to have their insides hanging out before you will start noticing penalties outside of losing damage from STR/DEX lose. Meaning you can keep pumping in attacks, rapidly, and blocking rapidly. Being the weapon also staggers enemies, you can sometimes get 2-3 attacks in on 1 enemy before they have any chance to react. Easily in my opinion making up for doing maybe 2/3s of the DPS of a Plank. Over all. If there is a weapon you want to equip and army with. The Polearm is honestly unmatched. I nicknamed it the Mini Plank for a reason. The Heavy Polearm is also something that should be noted, for all the reasons the Polearm is such a wonderful weapon. But instead of being a Mini Plank it's more of a Mini Fallen Sun. It's only downside is that it relies more on Cutting Damage where as the Polearm is relatively balanced between to two, which means some enemies the Heavy Polearm will do less damage to regardless, though it has a higher total damage potential just most of it is cutting. My main normally uses a Heavy Polearm for a number of reasons, mostly because my main is also the universal character who who has the lockpick prosthetic. So He/She will normally have Dex Boosting Arms. So benefiting from the higher cut damage modifier vs the normal Polearm. Despite that, the character can wipe out half a city of guards/personnel on their own pretty reliably. Doesn't matter if they have good armor, doesn't matter if they have numbers. Though I do cycle between it and a Plank for training purposes as the Plank does provide more STR gain over time.

My most recent playthrough I wanted an agile ninja guy, so went with katanas, and have fallen in love with toppers. I liked Nodachi a lot, but toppers are still good against robots, less-bad against armor, and less debuffs. Plus some blunt damage too which is cool, but it's only a tiny amount. The fast animation with katanas is so satisfying, and you can fight at pretty much full speed even when heavily injured, unlike with heavier super weapons like plank, fragment, or falling sun. Those weapons are great, but I really recommend trying toppers.. so fun. Katanas in general.

I'm kinda satisfied that you put in the Paladin's Cross as the best non-heavy weapon. Everyone swears on pretty much any kind of weapon on various forums, and nobody mentions hackers; IMO the Cross specifically easily outranks any other non-heavy in the game. The sheer base damage on them is insane. If you take into account the -10% against humans and animals it will still outdamage almost everything else, just because of the base damage. And there are no better weapon against armoured enemies, and it gets bonus damage from robotic limbs. It might not have the best bleed damage in the game on paper, but in my experience removing someone's arm in a single swing bleeds them alright.

Paladin's Cross is the best anti-armor/mech provided the wielder has twice the strength from the mass to wield them with ease. Falling Suns are all around great if strength is not a problem. Gives beak things a proper payback. Desert Sabres for wildlife slaying in a 1v1. More effective than polearm weapons at the expense on only extra damage against most creatures the Falling Sun doesn't cover.

Ive seen a huge battle in Lost in the Ashlands mod between HN and UC. HN massacred UC easily. Hackers are no joke, and if the paladins got Catun Grade weapons theyd conquer Kenshi.

I also recall hearing the best weapons to train DEX are: 3: Guardless Katana 2: Wakazashi 1: Martial Arts As the weight of the weapon determines the amount of dex exp per hit along with cutting damage ratio, and weapon attack speed is also useful. Lastly, using lower weapon grades means more hits needed to win the fight. =P

I do all my dex training with a high quality toothpick on a leviathan. take 1/2 a traders backpack full of bolts , get a lev stuck and unload for 10 mins on high speed , 1-60 dex done.

3 years too late here but I think rusted junk foreign saber might be the best for training dex due to the -4 to attack. Since dex is apparently affected by “Stronger Opponent Logic”

I leveled up a very strong skeleton from RLMB mod (300 hp) to 93 strength and 93 attack/defence/heavy weapons and gave him the best fragment ax available. He could take on a whole squad of paladins himself and when he swung, the bodies would sometimes fly across the base... so fun to watch.. He would eventually go down but I could get him back up again and again no matter how many they kept bringing lol

I've found the Long cleaver to be an excellent weapon when dealing with human foes. Never tested if the bonus applies to Hivers, but it doesn't matter. The armor pen and huge cutting damage make it excellent for dealing with southern hive. Nothing polearms can't achieve tho, but a squad of long cleavers will wipe the floor in cqc with southern hivers.

Loved the simple logic and short but sweet demo's. Naginata/Wakizashi are "standard issue" for my town folk, Falling Sun/Short Cleaver for my dungeon divers, range/monk on utility. Some variations must be made depending on who you've ticked off. Switching later in game after ticking off larger factions, to a mix of Falling Suns/Wakizashi and Range/Monks in the town.

I feel like the polearm gets disregarded a lot in some lets plays I've seen. It's useful as a beginners weapon just as much as an endgame weapon. It trains both strength AND dexterity, lightweight, medium damage, good range, multiple target sweeping effect, stats that are good against humanoids AND animals. The only negative effect it has is being indoors which can be easily countered by carrying an excellent sidearm such as a jitte. The polearm is amazing and makes the game very survivable.

on average the falling sun is best, it does indeed get outperformed by MA in 1v1 combat but apart from that its its better in most ways. Falling suns also dismeber enemies more often than MA so theyre better for outpost raids, since even if they wake up the enemies are literally disarmed. also heavy weapon for skeleton master race. And it's also catlons chosen weapon, which we all know is the good guy of the story.

The cool thing about Kenshi is that there is no 'meta' weapon. It depends on your playstyle and the enemies you fight. It's all rock-paper-scissors. With that being said I find crossbow + martial arts characters for dps and jittes/foreign saber + heavy armor characters for tanking is the best combo. I can take out lightly armored enemies at range so I don't get swarmed, tanks distract the ones that make it through while the MAs rip their limbs off. Ofc I have accidentally ended a few characters I wanted to capture with MAs and a number of my MAs get beat up fighting the UC because my crossbows couldn't thin them out enough. Not strategy is perfect for all situations and that's the beauty of Kenshi!

I love hackers and polearms. With the exception of crossbow users and desert sabres (no gate Swamp life) I arm all of my base personnel with hackers and polearms. Polearms as a class are highly under rated and can carry a character from Okran's Pride to the Ashlands. The only downside for hackers are the weight and lack of a good dex trainer like the naginata, the debuff against animals is negligible against anything less than an elder beak thing or leviathan.

If you can find a way to capture tinfist or cat leon, remove their limbs via peeler machine and then put them on a skely repair bed, you can train up MA EXTREMELY fast "fighting" the torso. Put MA boosting armor (not heavy) on him too to give him even higher stats to increase ma skill increase rate.

Plank is best, followed by Polearm, then MA, then Falling Sun. The Plank is a good weapon for the start to the "finish" of the game, and it does the same in all combat scenarios. MA is good and all, but is has around the same BPS as the Plank due to its reach.

I’m about 10hrs in (40 days in game) I’m just training… should I be building and farming and stuff? This is my 1st play though. Or should I be trying to find guys to join me? I have 4 people in heath(uc) and I’m bringing up about 12peeps from the swamp. I’m gonna have them meet in the starting location.. I was then going to start my science bench…. Should I have been doing that from the start? Or will starting now be okay?😊

Everyone should play the game to have fun, so there is no universal manual. I started farming after about 2000 days in the game. It is important to build walls with turrets around your farm. In my opinion, it is better to first earn approximately 200k and then start building a base (if you want to play without stress). Eagle Crosser Firing Line Goes splat splat splat. And dear its ussually a pool of blood after a dozen of my eagle Crosser enter combat, all of them have lifter and scout leg for all the ammo and armor. Plus their escort of 8 is also cyborg with heavy weapon. And thats just the whole crossbowman squad ussually i employ them along high level Cyborgs for forward assault so far i got about 10 elite warrior and more waiting for the limb upgrade to make em the ultimate cyborg army

Sometimes biggest gun is not a best choice Oldbow mk 2 deals less damage, but uses much more popular type of bolts, and has faster reload time. That means that your enemy is constantly staggered

You would be right if my character didn't use robotic limbs. But as you can see in the video the level of dexterity of this character is around 184. Dexterity increases cutting damage. Yes Topper is a more universal weapon but with robotic limbs Nodachi is a little bit better weapon.

Fragmented Axe je perfektna zbran. However, if you receive enough injuries during combat you won't be able to properly use it without speed penalties. The Meitou version is not viable against high-level characters.

Heavy is best . Falling sun is the best hands down. The reason MA is NOT the best weapon , armor use and heavy is better combo than MA can ever be. If you wear the best armors , your MA skill and dex will take a penalty which will reduce your MA to the point where it is lesser than a falling sun , if you wear the light armour you'll go down 1st anyway and still lose , take your example of how you mangled tinfist in your video.

I think it's a great weapon against heavily armored non-robotic enemies. The problem with this weapon is that it is not in Meitou quality in the game. That's the only reason why I don't show this weapon in the video.

Ma are pretty bad u cant almost 1v1 a late game char, and vs 2 or more heavy armor enemyes or with high dexterity u dont fight and u are a glass cannon i had a ma with +70 in strengh ma and dodge and he wss almost useless vs large groups

Why Nodachi better than Topper? Nodachi weak against armour

Good question. I think these two weapons are very similar, but these bonuses make Nodachi a little better weapon: Damage vs humans +10%, Attack +4, Blood loss 1.20x.

@@namvo3013 Actually damage vs humans +10%, Cutting Damage 2,64 and attack +4 makes Nodachi a little better weapon than a Topper.

Better? I dont think so. Yet they are very close to each other, except topper is a little bit more universal. Meitou Topper: - same damage as meitou nodachi, except 0.20 of it is blunt - no penalties against robots - lesser penaltie against armor - blood damage is 1.00, which is still good enough - no bonuses or penalties to attack or defense skills - same weight, and so is swing speed - same moveset

​@@locomotivebreath9364 You would be right if my character didn't use robotic limbs. But as you can see in the video the level of dexterity of this character is around 184. Dexterity increases cutting damage. Yes Topper is a more universal weapon but if I had to fight against skeletons then I would not use any weapons from the Katana class.
