that’s because TB is a period drama and is focused more on the relationship rather than the action. but had they adapted Jinchu properly in TF, no one would be able to question who Kenshin loves more dearly. TF did no justice to show the depth of Kenshin’s feelings for Kaoru. Jinchu Chapter in RK has the mot angst ridden declaration of love among all mangas.

We’ve witnessed how tough it is for all of his adversaries to subdue him. In the first four installments, we thought he’s invincible. The antagonists have to attack him from afar and do all the dirty tricks just to win against him because they knew they don’t stand a chance if they fight against Battosai at a close distance. It’s heart-wrenching to see him so vulnerable and on the brink of death. He was saved because of love.

His strength, his personality, his ways, his smile, his sadness, his will to never kill again, it all came from one moment. This movie really defined the word "irreplaceable". Kenshin’s vow was not only for Tomoe. it was also for Akira and the many other lives he took. He has already decided to atone even before killing her. He continued to kill even after Tomoe for the revolution. But when Kaoru died (fake death), he couldn’t get up and lost all meaning of life. Also, when Kenshin found Enishi intended to kill Kaoru, he specically said he wont allow it, even if he has to go against Tomoe. 😏

I started watching this franchise from this movie. And was so heartbroken that Tomoe died! Their chemistry was off the charts! So much so that I can't fathom how Kenshin and Kauro are a thing. I’m a big Kenshin/kaoru shipper but I agree with you. Kenshin and kaoru seems to have a case of instalove in the LA films. I guess it’s because of time constraints, there’s really no time to show their interactions and we got a sort of happened feeling. 😌 it is not so in the anime and manga.

You also seem to forget that Kaoru is young. Kenshin is her first love and most of the movies she struggles with her feelings for him. She is inexperienced with love and didnt really have an adult tell her about these things. Kenshin too is guarded about his feelings for her because he tends to lose the people he loves. so the whole of the movies is really the whole "wont they or will they?" thing. But one thing is for sure. Tomoe's love for him was not pure. It was born out of revenge. But Kaoru's is the purest. Even when she knew he was battousai she welcomed him to her home, gave her wholehearted trust to him. Kaoru is his will to live. There's a lot of symbolism in the relationship between Kenshin and Kaoru. You just have to understand and dig deeper.

@@Kali-gl2io ACTING, because they are good actors that is what I felt their pure acting even though they don’t have a lot dialogues and for that is the hardest thing for actors to act without script but only emotion, I felt Takeru Satoh and Kasumi Arimura’s acting…and what’s wrong about their love ? Yep it all started it wrong because of the idea of REVENGE? That is why I said that FATE is so bad to them because why can’t just started off as good friends? Or tomoe met Kenshin right after Kiyosato died right but no fate brought them together because life wants them to learn something, to know the real battousai without prejudice for Tomoe and to know the happiness and love for Kenshin. We all hate someone or something when we even don’t know what’s really inside them or for who they are and I think that is what this movie became a beautiful movie for me. The man that Tomoe met was an incredibly strong young man who was a part of a group that kept killing for their own ideal of "judgment from heaven". As the government changed, they understood how horrible this was and tried to bury it.

One of Kenshin's charms, although he is thin and short of stature (even though he is not skinny at all, but has an athletic and virile body despite his thinness) is that he is a good-hearted man, and, above all, a romantic man. No wonder many female characters in Ruroken's history fall in love with him. If Ryo Saeba was romantic with his beloved Kaori, as Kenshin is with Tomoe and later with Kaoru, he would conquer many more women, lol.

I see a lot of comment here stating how Tomoe's and Kenshin's love was not as pure as Kenshin's and Kaoru's. I could never quite connect with Kenshin and Kaoru since that love depends on Kaoru's dedication for Kenshin (even as seen in the Hokkaido-arc now), as Kenshin focuses on his atonement. I am simply not into the woman dedicating her life to a man dynamic. Whereas, I see Kenshin was as dedicated to Tomoe as Kaoru was to Kenshin. Now this is rare because he was a man in the Edo-period. In the manga, before Kenshin says goodbye to Tomoe, he tells Kaoru that "The real Tomoe is kinder than anyone or anything." Note the IS (and not was). That is how Kenshin thinks of Tomoe. A lot of people don't understand that Kaoru has immense respect for Tomoe as well. In the manga, after hearing the story, she calls her as "清廉な人". Perhaps the biggest compliment coming out of her for anyone. Kaoru understands fully what Tomoe is to Kenshin. Battousai loved Tomoe immensely. However, time changed, the era changed, 15 years passed, he chose to settle down - that is all. It is not that Kenshin ever forgot Tomoe, his atonement it was for her.

TB is a live adaptation. you know adaptation? it is based on an original story- the manga. an adaptation is never meant to be taken separately or independently from the source. It is meant to be compared and it’s success is measured in it’s precision to the original story. No wonder TF and TB failed to become such great hits compared to the first 3 installments. You know why? Because it largely deviated from the essence of RK. For example, if you read the manga, you’ll know that Kenshin is not a demonic machine to begin with. He was even more honorable than Tomoe, and it was because of this fact that Tomoe had a change of heart. it was her who was changed by Kenshin, not the other way around. Also, the mangaka, owner of RK and all its characters said Kenshin chose not Megumi, not Tomoe but Kaoru. Even Kenshin himself said he would go against Tomoe to protect Kaoru. If the words of the owner of RK meant nothing to you, nothing else will. Had they adapted Jinchu properly in TF, you would never be able to make such a bold claim. I’m not saying you should read the manga. But to make such remarks about KenKao just by watching LA is very ignorant given your superficial understanding of RK. You can gush about KenTom without disrespecting Kaoru. But Kenshin has long moved on from her. A large part of his not being able to forget her is guilt rather than love. So you say you’re an LA-only fan and could care less about the manga. But even Takeru Satoh said that Kaoru would be able to live without Kenshin but he doubts Kenshin could do the same. He survived Tomoe, but he wont be able to survive without Kaoru. LA team, in their sub-audio commentary of TF, said that Kenshin’s romantic love for Tomoe has long ended the moment he slayed her with his own hands. She became a symbol of sin and sorrow instead of precious first love. And he was eager to live in the new era with Kaoru, thus, the graveyard scene at the end. Though they failed to show KenKao moments in TF since they chose to focus on the action, they knew for themselves that Kaoru is the true heroine of RK.

Kaoru is Kenshin' s new breath..his new beginning...the personification of his ideals.Their souls are connected. He hold backs his love because he wanted to protect her the most, being the closest to him. Kaoru's love is so pure. In manga and anime,her childish character is the counter balance of Kenshin's calm character..Though she's not as strong as Kenshin and Sano , she's clever and highly analytical.

I think you forgot that Kaoru is young. She's 18 and Kenshin is 28 in the manga. Kenshin is her first love so she is still unsure of what to do. Kaoru is a complex character. Being an orphan, she learned to fend for herself since her father died and left her the dojo. It means she's grown up to be very guarded about her feelings. Kenshin at this point in his life doesn't feel like he is worthy of happiness or love. He is hesitant to love because's also experienced great pain. Kenshin's biggest fear is losing Kaoru. While their relationship doesn't take the stereotypical romance. They show it in more subtle ways. Their story is about two people finding themselves and finding each other in the process.
