This was so incredibly thorough! I really appreciate the attention to detail in all of the videos on your channel. Just to add: Every hotel and apartment-hotel that I've stayed at in Japan offered free toiletries for the taking either in the room or at the front desk. They always had toothbrushes with toothpaste, and then some combination of razors, body towels (aka mesh disposable washcloths), foldable hair brushes (like the one you demo'd), etc. Sometimes they didn't have a specific kind of toiletry but at least always toothbrushes and toothpaste, so if you want to save space you could skip packing those items. They only exception was when I stayed at a hostel - in that place I had to request the toiletries at the front desk. Also, every place (except the hostel) had full size bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and foaming face and hand wash. So again you might be willing to leave yours at home. About half of the places I stayed had lounge wear / pajamas / yukatas available for free in the room, so if you are close to Japanese size in your clothing you can probably get away with only packing one pair of pjs from home (which is what I did).

Thanks for sharing! We've had similar experience with hotels providing quite a few toiletries. I'd say at the bare minimum to at least bring deodorant, as hotels don't provide it and stores aren't likely to carry the same selection.

9 lb. with laptop impressive! My 35L Pakt starts at 5 lb. + 3 lb. laptop alone. Used zip locks to drop weight of organizer bags and still came in at 15 lb. Great vid. I will be rethinking my packing strategy.

That was 9kg (20 lbs) with laptop. Looks like I forgot to put the conversion to pounds on the screen. Sorry for the confusion! I switched units between weighing the bag empty and weighing it packed.

Love the video, thanks for sharing! Where did you get your little lightweight pouches from to hold your toiletries, etc? I often only find stiff make up and toiletry bags but am looking for lightweight packing pouches as you've shown.
@KenshoQuest8 күн бұрын
Hi! The small little pouches are the Simple Pouch by Thirsties. They are available here: www.greenmountaindiapers.com/collections/thirsties/products/thirsties-simple-pouch The pouch I put my main toiletries in is the Wet/Dry Travel Bag by Planet Wise (9.5"x5"). I don't think they make it anymore. Unfortunately, a lot of USA manufacturers have been pushed out of the marketplace. I also have the Flat Pouch and Toiletries Pouch by Canvelle. Very informative packing video. At 10kg with your laptop you would have a challenge to board Asia’s notorious low cost flight because the weight limit is 7kg only. Thanks for sharing 😊
@KenshoQuest8 күн бұрын
Luckily I’m packing for Japan, and both Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways allow 10kg carry-on per person. It’s been years since we flew AirAsia. To pack within 7kg I’d start with a lighter backpack and consider switching to a lighter laptop. Otherwise, I’d have to sacrifice too many other items.
@AtmosJourney7 күн бұрын
@@KenshoQuest absolutely right. There’s always pro and con for a one bag travel lifestyle. If we decides to choose lightweight travel, then we must be willing to make sacrifices for minimum items we bring along in our travels.
@joycer713 күн бұрын
Omg thank you for this video! 😊 extremely helpful! I was going to use this as a personal item along with my carry on luggage. Is that possibly not a good idea due to how big it is and potentially how heavy it can get?
@KenshoQuest13 күн бұрын
Hi. Now that I've tried packing it, I realize it's pretty close in size to a carry-on bag. If you pack both bags full, they will likely be way over 10kg (22 lbs) total. If the airline staff weighs your bags they'll probably ask you to check in the carry-on suitcase. But, they also might not weigh your bags...
@joycer713 күн бұрын
Sounds good, thank you! I’ll just pack as if I’m checking in my carry on luggage. 😊 just in case.

Good job . Pleasse when travelling do ask for how much money you are holding at hand at the airport?
@KenshoQuest10 күн бұрын
I'm sorry, what is your question? If you bring 1 million Yen or more into Japan, you must declare it to Customs. Rather than brining Yen with us to Japan, I withdraw 50,000 Yen from the ATM at the airport. Here is our separate video about money and payments in Japan: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3y7aZKDqNqMfLc

Helpful video. Would this backpack fit in the storage area under the airplane seat?
@KenshoQuest13 күн бұрын
I haven't taken it on a flight yet, but I think it would fit under the seat in front of me on many airplanes. The dimensions of the 28L are 19in x 12in x 9in (48 x 30 x 23cm).
