I'm from KL and recently went to HCM. Honestly, I can't stay there due to the pollution, horrendous traffic, very undeveloped and not international friendly. Maybe because when you have stayed in a more developed city, it's hard to stay elsewhere, I'm still okay with BKK though. Holidays are fine though. :)

I guess I only dislike it so much because of 1 very pretentious Malaysian girl who betray me as a friend and those pretentious Singaporean backpackers... I love Malaysia, especially Borneo. My wife (Malaysian born) and I couldn't agree with you more. We're both retired now and have a home in KL which we go to for 4-6 months every year with the exception of 2020 : (. Have plenty of friends there in our age group 60+ who enjoy going out and having fun on the weekends. You are so right the movie theaters there are way cheaper we go often and the movies are first run and sometimes come out even before hitting the US theaters go figure. The malls are humongous and put the USA malls to shame LOL. Our favorites are Pavilion, KLCC. Mid Valley/Megamall ,One Utama and Bangsar shopping. Food is amazing...from Chinese to Indian to Fusion to Western... Hopefully we'll be able to go sometime this year. Good luck in your future travels.

The geographic location of Malaysia is just lucky. In the middle of South east Asia, equidistant to everywhere by air. Even the middle in between China and India by water. No natural catastrophe excepted for flooding but flooding can be manage properly actually. The government can do this using engineering justvlike what is done in KL with the SMART tunnel

You are right. KL is safer than Bangkok. Majority of Caucasians only go to specific areas, so maybe this two are just referring to areas they went. KL is also cleaner, and people are more educated in KL and suburbs. In BKK i get ripped off, but in KL never happened in my life. And I have been to both over 13 times. Lived in both too. Love both countries, Vietnam not much, too low class people trying to rip me off too.

Having lived in Bangkok 10 years, i would give second thoughts about coming back to live there now in spite of all my thai network of friends and the fact i still refer to Thailand as a second home. Cost of living has risen dramatically - everything is about the money now - and while international grocery stores are easily found, the price of imported food is extortionate because of very high import duties. When Big C was the property of French retailer Casino, and when Carrefour was still operating in the country, they both carried a nice selection of affordable though limited selection of imported food. Now you need to rely on Gourmet market / Food Hall by Central and Villa supermarkets and they are really, i mean really expensive. I never thought i would say this, but my destination of choice for moving back to SEA would have to be KL where i found the cost of living to be way more reasonable than Bangkok these days.Apartments, choice of local cuisines, mix of Asian cultures, english spoken everywhere, close proximity to Singapore, incredibly cheap imported food items from all over the world : KL has turned into a very fine place to live !

I’ve lived in Bangkok for four years. You give a fair assessment. I will point out that AQI is Bangkok is very seasonal. The air is bad from about mid-December through March. They rest of the year if very good. Also, Bangkok is very good for cultural events. The art scene is very good. Music and dance is very good. The Bangkok Symphony Orchestra is excellent and plays free concerts in the park January & February. And Thai cultural festivals are not to be missed. Finally, Thai street food is world renown. I’ve visited KL once and I can see that it is more family friendly.

Fair comments. To live, KL is the best to live. Easy to adapt as English is more widely spoken comparing to those cities and at the same time, to learn Chinese too. (Best combination of English and Chinese as if you have 'conquered the most universal and most spoken language on earth). We have superb medical facility although (I feel our medical tourism marketing isn't as aggressive as in Bangkok). Ample food varieties to choose in KL. You may easily get Thai food in KL but not necessarily it is easily avail to find Malaysian food in Bangkok/HCM. We are not perfect but we at least understand and have higher tolerance level (culturally and religion) as Malaysia is a multi racial community. To live in a place is ability to adapt and being inclusiveness in the local community; not just staying within expat area or focusing on the touristy areas. Cost is main factor when comes to retirement and to have the least major language barrier. KL has big selection of affordable and luxury living (depending on individual financial ability and their choice) In contrast, I personally like Thailand for tourism purposes and to 'wind down'. Am proud to be Malaysian and is a perfect place in an imperfect way.

Great video guys!!! Well, I am a Malaysian Chinese, I don't want to sound as if I'm being biased at all. But after being to the other 2 countries over & over again, I've to say, Malaysia is still a little bit nicer. Over all, the things you mentioned basically. I do love Vietnam, especially north part. However, the amount of bikes and noises & lack off rules, drove me nuts. Their food is great though. Bangkok, for me is way too crowded, less English speaking, even though they may have more things there to choose from. I do enjoy being there like a few days, but definitely not a long term. Bars & clubs aren't my thing, so basically there's nothing much left after gone there for 1/2 a dozen times, every time, it seems to get busier. Moreover, their local food, isn't my fave. International food, yes. But Malaysia has those too. With that being said, I think all this 3 countries are great!!! We hope Malaysia continues to deliver... & yes, it's rather underrated, but is ok. 😊 Cheers from PJ/Malaysia

Unfortunately the housing prices in Vietnam has gone too far and has now beyond the reach of many people. With the same amount of money spent, you definitely can enjoy a higher quality of living in KL, with a superior transportation system as well as very affordable housing.

Saigon is not tourism city. Its a finacial and economic center. So you would not feel interested. And Danang, Nhatrang, Dalat city would be the best choice for traveling.

This video was great. I like your criteria for the video. AQI is something that people need to take into account when making a move to a city. Bangkok is a great city, but the air is awful in the dry season. Need to get an air purifier.

Thank you for that, very useful. These are the 3 cities that we have been looking at to live in from next year. We have spent time in all of them. some more than others. But I think we will be going to Bangkok for a couple of years (59 years old, married and minimal ties) so our needs are slightly different to yours. We speak a little Thai, along with some very basic Vietnamese and Malaysian. But after a couple of years, it may be onto KL for us.

Hi, thanks for commenting! Glad it is useful and is still very current. Just an FYI, I don't know if you have been watching, and not trying to scare you, but lately the AQI in almost all of Thailand has been hazardous. We were in Hua Hin recently and even there it was over 160 every day. Chiang Mai continues to be the worst. Hopefully, Thailand will get their act together. Good luck to you both 🙏

I lived in Saigon and rode my bike outside of town and the aqi was much lower just outside of the city. But full disclosure, I moved to Saigon from China, so I loved the air comparatively speaking.

Proud PJ-rian here! And to our foreign friends, Petaling Jaya or PJ for short was originally developed in the mid-1940s as a satellite town to ease overpopulation in KL... But grew spectacularly over the decades to become a big city in its own right!
