What a lovely lesson. Holding the drum in my left hand, I still look for the position that allows me to get a full sound with my left ring finger. Practice, practice.

Hi Ken, you are the best drum teacher I found online, I am a beginner, so your explanation is understandable, straight, clear and natural; I ordered my drum and looking forward to practising with you; thank you very much.

Love this video. I prefer holding the drum to resting it on my leg. I initially was taught the balance method. I will be doing this daily now to get myself back into the strength and rhythm.

Though I use this style the least, the one thing I like about it is how much louder a drum sounds when held in this way. Especially outside, where there is no echo like in a room.

Many drumming traditions use a type of syllabic system which imitates the sounds of the drum. This particular set of syllables is commonly used when learning to play drums of Middle Eastern origin.

I find this style easier to play than lap style and the strokes resonate more especially on the rim
