👍🏼 very clear explanation, thank you sir for this video ✨✨✨I just wanted to add, that in ThaDhiGiNaThom frase, the "Na" syllable also has a retroflex pronunciation. That I learned from my master Somashekar Jois sir.

This is the best channel explaining non-western rhythms from a western point of view. Very clear, well structered. Thank you, all your videos are very helpful.

Wow…this is a whole new language. You do it so effortlessly. Gosh it’s not easy. I’m glad I came across your videos. I’m new to drumming. I just bought my first frame drum a week ago. Thank you for these lessons.

Hi Nicola! I'm glad you've been enjoying the videos. Congrats on your new frame drum!

So here's a relevant question,,when you make the different sounds does each sound apply to some part of the drum being played, or technique on the drum. For example I take it "thom" means a strike with the thumb on the bass part of the drum. Or "tak" on the rim. Or am I way off base! As a jazz and salsa drummer (40 + years) I plan on incorporating some of the rhythms!

Yes that's right! Each syllable and phrase in solkattu represents a drum stroke and/or pattern on the South Indian drums, mrdangam and kanjira.

@@kenshorley Ok, cool. So I guess I will pick it up as I watch more of your videos. Also I picked up a book called Solkatu Manual by David Nelson as I was unable to get your teacher's book until maybe March. I also ordered a Roosebeck 14 inch Tar which looked like it got good reviews. It has a cedar frame and is tune-able, as opposed to my remo. Thanks again!
