Thanks for your comment. I'm indebted to Sankaran-sir for so much. He really has opened up my perception of rhythm and time.

I play middle eastern percussion,and have recently discovered the Kanjira,which is a fascinating instrument. This is a great tutorial,and i have written all the notations down,so i can work on them. Thanks for all your percussion videos.

Very clear explanation Ken! My guru and Bangalore was Mr. T.A.S Mani. RIP. I often toured with him here in Europe as well. B.C. Manjunath is also a good friend, player and teacher.

This is very helpful stuff. I've been using some of these ideas on the bendir drum, while sometimes playing "Ta" on the rim or as a snap.

Did I hear you correct, you were getting a more bass tone by using water somehow? I'm all ears,,tell me more!
@kenshorley2 жыл бұрын
Yes! The traditional kanjira is made from lizard skin which absorbs water in order to deepen in pitch.

These lessons are excellent. Can you provide a definition of mohra? I hear this term used often and kind of understand what it is (short looped phrase) but don't understand the actual definition. Thank you!
@kenshorley3 жыл бұрын
Hi. A simple definition is that a mora is the repetition of a phrase three times which ends on an important beat within a rhythmic cycle - often (but not always) on the first beat of the cycle. Thanks for watching!
