Merry Christmas Ken! To answer your question about open combs; YES they are much more aggressive at shaving long thick growth as opposed to closed comb. I’m going to do a feather R41 Muhle combo shave mid Jan I’m going to shave my entire beard off. I’ll have a good sized beard by then lol Awesome video, your shaves are excellent but truthfully I personally enjoy your commentary the most. I desperately want a Christmas shave soap I have none!

Thanks for ur mention about my comments on cutting myself with de blade .. actually it was freak accident as i was loading blade in razor and it slipped and in trying to catch it it cut my 3 fingers very badly 😂

Great shave. I have an open comb razor, namely the Fatip Piccolo. Even though it’s the only razor of such type I have, I find it to be mid aggressive and very efficient in cutting down my coarse stubble. I love that razor. Merry Christmas.

My Christmas Eve shave was scalp and face (around the goatee) with Viking Augustine adjustable, Feather blade (of course) and Art of Shaving Sandalwood, Chubby 2 synthetic, and marble ridged bowl. Follow up with Thayers witch hazel unscented, Nivea lotion, and Stetson cologne.

Slants are great. I bought my first one about 2 month's ago. And I wished I bought one sooner. A superclose shave with no irritation.I always thought slants were just a hype. Never even considering trying one. Untill I,ve read "Leisureguy's Guide to Gourmet Shaving the Double Edge way" The author's (Michael Ham) chapter about why one should try a slant won me over. (By the way, Merry Christmas Ken and everyone else reads this. 🙂)

I have thick stubble and require 4 pass daily. Open comb may be a little more efficient overall, it also depends on skin sensitivity. I generally can't use them due to skin sensitivity. I use higher blade exposure safety razors like the blackbird, greencult etc. i get a good balance of efficiency and comfort.

Regarding the open combs: I have a wiry, tough beard. My vintage Gillette open comb (Old style) gets down to skin in one pass - no other type razor can do that with my beard. A slant can do it with two passes, closed comb requires three passes for me.

I just find putting the blade into a razor is more easily done before even starting the lather. Loose; and then tighten just before beginning the razor strokes.
