Actually, Ken Tampling was the lead singer and guitar player of a famous Christian rock band formed in the 80s (more specifically, gram metal rock) that's why his vocal range. Most of rock singers have spectacular voices, reaching super high notes as well as low notes, falsetto, etc. I'm not much knowledgeable in music or vocals, but most of my knowledge comes from watching Ken.

The story behind this song is very interesting: The band that accompanies Dimash is the same one that composed the song, without the singer who died after a heart attack! The band is also from Kazakhstan and this performance by Dimash revitalized the song. In addition, the final part he added, with an oriental Arab technique, is a funeral lament, paying homage to the dead vocalist! Bright! The song was originally performed in 1998 and the band's name is A'Studio. The dead singer left the band in 2000 and passed away in 2015 and his name was Batyrkhan Shukenov. The lyrics are by the poet Ilia Reznik together with Baigaly Serkebyev, who is the keyboardist with long hair, which we see in the video accompanying Dimash.

He is 24 years old now and if you watch and you should The I am singer show 2017 from China you will be mind blown. Dimash was 22 on this show...The first song w/ be SOS in French...the second is Opera 2 in Russian etc. Dimash plays the drums, the piano and the Dombra ( a Kazakh lute instrument w/ two strings.) He will play this in his song Dadidau. This is a Kazakh song . Dimash was a wild card on the singer show which had only famous singers competing against each other and no one thought he would get through. So happens that he won first place with the first song he sang...SOS. He came in second on the show but, he is known around the world now....over 100 countries. Dimash had a concert in London recently and people from over 40 countries came to see him. What a lot of reactors miss here due to unfotunate timing of pausing is that last phrase was all carried through in a single breath. The chest, into insane head, dropping into a lengthy melisma all in a single one-breath vocal phrase. I doubt there is a known vocalist alive who could pul that kinda feat off. I hadn't heard of this guy until tonight and now I'm glad I have. It's refreshing to see a young face with such raw talent and ability. The kinda thing doesn't exist in contemporary music nowadays.

can we all just acknowledge that the powerful high note into the small riff/run he does, is 23 seconds long, and that it's all (i think) in one breath!

Dear Ken, thank you so much for your exciting reaction to this song. Dimash has absolutly caught me. And as others wrote before: his " D 8" in "unforgetable day at Gakku" is really something, I´ve never heard. So I do not want to overuse you - but can you please react to this song too sometime ? I can wait....

great reaction and analysis. people just couldn't say enough good about Dimash. he is simply the best voice in the world as people call him. yep, you're right, 'alien' is another nickname people call him. regardless of whether you are a person with great vocal knowledge like yourself or simply a general music listener like most of us, all do understand that Dimash is the best in this present time. he is a big star now but will eventually become a global mega star once he breaks into the US mainstream (not to prove but a bigger stage to show case, US - the biggest music market in the world). please react to more of his performances and viewers will surely be glad to come to enjoy it. there is no bad performances of his but rather which one is your favor(s). don't forget to react to the unforgettable day at Gakku concert if you want to hear the famous "D8" note.
