I can’t believe you just posted this - as I tried looking it up on your channel just a few days ago😀. I heard this a few months ago and really enjoyed it. I was surprised and thought she must have chosen to do it this way because she was in the studio with Howard. After listening of course I had to go find and listen to the rockin’ version! I remember sometime around ‘96 a neighbor across the way was blasting this and the Sears & Robuck prefab house they lived in was practically shaking from all the energy. And I loved it. Good memories😀.

Alanis is in a class above most. The only one I feel compares today is Lana Del Rey, for writing all of her own stuff and being so lyrically intense and taking creative risks. Something usually unmentioned that (imho) makes a great vocalist great is being able to write unique but still memorable tunes with their voice. Steve Perry, early Robin Zander, etc are good examples (imho again).

Supposedly this song was written about her relationship with Dave Coulier, the actor from Full House. I believe she was 14 or 15 when it began. He was quite a bit older.
