Thank you very much for sharing! I have a small PD Racer sailboat with a sprit sail. I have many times read about scandalizing, but for the first time I actually saw how you did it and it makes 100% more sense to me now. You have truly educated me! Now I need to do some serious upgrading works on my sails! I have just subscribed to you channel now as I am sure will be learning a whole lot more!

Wow I got a few sail terms wrong there, peak, head, tack, clew for the corners. Throat, luff, foot and leach for the edges. Skipper wasn't nearby to correct me. I think keeping the brailing line tight would be called brailing, and it would also scandalize the sail, but another and probably more correct method of "scandalizing" is to remove the sprit, let the top bit of the sail flap, turning the 4 sided sail into a 3 sided sail with less area. It'll get you there but not with the best sail shape. Cheers, Clark and Skipper

Thank you for sharing, the brailing line looks as if it runs between the sprit and the sail, so how does it pull the sprit to mast when brailing? Thank you

By the magic of the sail geometry between the peak of the sail and the snotter line gathering up the top part of the sail. You could also put the sprit inside of the brail line, but if you decided to remove the sprit and "scandalize" later it would be harder to do. Reef early, reef often and when there is too much wind, put the rig inside the boat and row :)

Hi, I found some of your other videos and found the answers to my questions. You have a lot of interesting videos thank you. How is the snotter connected to the sprit pole? I rigged so it goes from the mast to the bottom of the sprit pole and then using half hitches secured to the lower portion of the pole. Your set up looks way better than mine. Could you share a diagram or picture? I could give you my email if that would be easier. Jim H

There is a ridge around the bottom of the pole which forms a "pin." We tied a bowline knot on the end of the snotter and slip it over the pin. It's not needed, but we run the snotter line up through a block and then back down to a belaying pin, to make it easier to downrig quickly.
