That is so clever. I watched your left hand and distinctly heard you resolve to F major and then later I saw you resolve to Bb and thought what, where, how? I liked the quotes too. That was more great stuff, Kent. Thanks.

I have really been enjoying your videos and have a hell of a time keeping up with the new material, as I try to accept the challenges your offer. ❤ Thanks Maestro beautiful as always. In my opinion is also a good ending modulating back to the first bar (kind of open ending) and with this interpretation it could still be thought in F, but in any case are just interpretations and your was as usual amazing
@KentHewittpiano88 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the affirmation.....you could say that it's in the first or last key. It could be in the first key if you moculate back to the first key as an ending.

I had difficulties with the chords in a few areas of this song: that C7 to Gb7b5 at bar 16 solved one of them. Thanks. While looking at this song again though, it occurred to me that half of it (bars 1-8 and 17-24) is like bars 1-8 and 17-24 of Arthur Schwartz's earlier published piece Dancing In The Dark.

@@KentHewittpiano88 I admire Arthur Schwartz's songwriting. I think his By Myself is another great song. The mid-eastern modal D7 / Am7b5 / D7 / Am7b5 section is so modern and unusual by any standards. I think a later chord movement in the piece Em7b5 / A7 / Dm7b5 / G7 etc. inspired the composer of Stella By Starlight. There are also parallels between By Myself and Duke Ellington's Caravan which is another unique composition.

Fantastic Reharm! Loved the ending. BTW, great quotes. Keep on keeping on. 😎 Thank for the breakdown:I now understand the form. Was it like this orig w Nat and then Dinah, or was this something that emerged from the later female/male duo=Natalie and Nat. So the question is:is this the magic of the songwriter or the arranger for Natalie's version? The nice result,whatever the case, Gordon won new recognition w Natalie's hit decades after his orig success w her dad. Late life well-deserved fortune! Nat, Dinah, Natalie...wow. Write the hit, buy the house. Thank you, Maestro.
@KentHewittpiano884 жыл бұрын
Nat King Cole sang the original version. He sang it with Natalie as a duet,,,,,I believe that was some studio magic. The arrangers really have the job of making the song famous, in some ways.

So, in the Nat Cole recording, the instrumental bridge begins on Dbmaj7 and ends on Gb. I'm trying to work out a modulation sequence on guitar back to the Fmaj7 at the beginning of the last verse, but I'm struggling to find a sequence I like. I can go Gb to Gm7 to C7, but I'd really like to put a couple of chords between the Gm7 and the C7. Any suggestions?
