Would be nice if door opened higher so average guy does not have to bend to work on unit. As a 50 year industrial Sparky can gurantee that ALL IEC contactors are junk. A full size made in USA starter will last 5 times longer. Been on jobs where air compressors ran 24/7 with too many start & stops a hour. They were replacing cheap IEC contactors every 10 months. I installed full size USA starters and never had a problem next 5 years. Manufacturers always install the cheapest product. Last 100 HP fire pump that I PM'ed had IEC contactors. Could not believe that. I always opened up cover on fire pump starters to inspect the contacts along with voltage drop & IR scan. Can not open any IEC starters to inspect contacts.

there ARE insulated fuse pullers for this application....
@Posichronic5 жыл бұрын
Real electricians never show up to a job with any tool they're not absolutely 100% sure they'll need. If they don't know what tools they need, they won't bring any, and then be bothered if you suggest maybe they should go get at least a meter and a screw driver because the healing touch doesn't seem to be cutting it today. Also, some synonyms for 'fuse pullers' includes 'flat head screw driver,' 'channel locks,' 'pliers,' 'my hands,' etc.. I guess if you get hung up on a fuse you thought was dead, the muscle spasm will cause you to yank it loose anyway, so it's no big deal.

You did a very good job in highlighting safety and checking the circuits .... However, if anyone is going to be inside a control box they need to put a lockout tag out in place. I can't express to everyone in the comments, maybe not you but to everyone it only takes 1 tenth of an amp to kill ya. And some pencil pushing upper management comes by complaining his AC isn't working and throws a switch that could mean your life.

Hate to do it. 1: OSHA requires ARC Flash suit 2: You didn't lock out the disconnect. Lock, Tag, Try before you take off the PPE 3: You should be using a Megger to test the motor windings. "Your meter isn't capable of truly testing the insulation value" of the windings, phase to ground. Although, it is a good starting point. 4: The body of the compressor motor IS grounded. You mean, the windings in that motor are showing no "short to ground" or no lack of proper insulation (which your meter can't properly assess).

R they OSHA or UL approved fuse pullers? Did they same thing hundreds if times. Always had 3 sizes of fuse pullers but you can not carry everything especially climbing ladders to a roof. Best thing I saw was a large company kept a lot of tools, sockets & a meter licked up in roof elevator motor room.
@4gizzle853 жыл бұрын
Good job. You also could manually push contacts closed and check continuity, which is a littler faster than trying to land jumpers to close....just saying....good job though man ...very nice

Very good trouble shooting but poor show of Arc Flash protection. I'm not saying this to discriminate your video but for the new and up incomers. If an arc flash was to occur, assuming he is not wearing HRC Pants everything would burn except for his hands. Please be safe. Always wear your Arc Flash HRC Clothing and protective face shields if necessary.

If you can get a contact kit from the motor starter manufacturer you can replace the bad contact, or all three to the motor since they draw the most current under load. Some contractors cost several hundred dollars & the contact kit is under $10.00 Great video! Thanks
