In our household the bacon spam is a once-a-week ritual for breakfast. Whenever we do fried rice, it is a huge fight between the Tocino and the Teriyaki. For cold Spam eating the original is the best with Hickory making a close second. If we could only have one flavor it would have to be the original flavor hands down.

Spam stands for Specially Processed American Meat
@jesalyn84Ай бұрын
That’s actually not true. It’s actually just short for spiced ham. It was created by Ken Daigneau the brother of a Hormel executive during a name contest for the canned meat product in 1937. He won $100 for his idea. It is not an acronym it is simply shortening Spiced Ham into spam.

My wife and I love SPAM, We'll open a can, slice it, and make cold sandwiches with it. We put tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and mayonnaise on the sandwich with SPAM. You don't have to cook SPAM, it's good to eat right out of the can. We'll also slice it and bake it in the oven, and have it with fried eggs and hash for breakfast. My favorites are the Original SPAM, and the Hickory Smoked SPAM. Fun video guys, thanks for sharing it. JT Kentucky, USA.

This is KZbin at its finest. Two Englishmen sitting in the woods, on a summer's day in which it's threatening to pour with rain, sampling and ranking Spam like professional canned meat connoisseurs. I'm vegetarian and I still enjoyed watching that. I was with you on the prediction of maple being the best. I'm sorry but I couldn't help but chuckle at the utter wordless, blank disappointment when you both realised it wasn't living up to expectations! You both looked like a kid who opens their Christmas present and it's not quite the same item they asked Santa for, perhaps a knock-off version. 😆

@terrylookabill84412 ай бұрын
I've tried all of those except the Tocino. And I'm pretty much in agreement with you. I have had the hot and spicy, it is really spicier than I like in a sandwich. But the Hot and Spicey and the teriyaki are both good in fried rice for breakfast with a couple eggs on top.
@beckyowens2586Ай бұрын
I honestly prefer the off brand of spam and the bacon flavor is superior. It's the breakfast struggle meat in our house. Sliced and fried, goes great with eggs and toast. Also, one must rinse and dry their canned meat product. My husband argues with me, saying the jelly just helps it cook better. I think it produces enough of it's own fat to cook in, you don't need extra jelly. Also... spam gravy. Idk if it's a thing, but I use the fond from frying the spam to make white pepper gravy. I know y'all don't do white gravy in the UK so it's just a splash of water to de-glaze the pan, knob of butter, couple table spoons of flour, cook it out for a minute or two, pour in a couple cups of milk and pepper the heck out of it. Continuously stir 10 minutes later, gravy. I make bangers and mash and do the same thing when the sausages are done cooking. Made 'em last night actually.

I'm guessing that the bacon is just a version with far ess liquid smoke flavouring added than the hickory smoke version and the maple is probably that strange fenugreek seed extract that is used as an artificial maple flavouring - it's very weird and most often found in cheap pancake syrups. Liquid smoke and fake maple - mmmm, mmmm good! You should try the 25% less sodium version - salty enough, but with more subtleness and easier to eat more without feeling parched and bloated. The perfect one IMO.
@joeswoods2 ай бұрын
I only eat the original and lower sodium recipes myself. In my opinion spam is at its best if cooked in a bit more olive oil than you used and at a lower heat for longer, till there is a thin encapsulation of light crispiness on both sides, served with home fries made w/ Maine potatoes and Vidalia😊 onions and two or three fresh eggs it’s part of a complete breakfast.
