Derek at Limestone Branch Distillery shows us how to make an Old Fashioned cocktail.

Before Christmas they used to have self guided tours. With egg nog and hot chocolate made with makers. And it’s the “Bourbon Trail”, they have almost like passport books you can get stamped with each distillery you visit.

Snuck up to my neck of the woods. LOL I live in a suburb of Louisville. Marion county is about an hour and a half outside of Louisville. I hope enjoy the bourbon trail. Don't forgetots to see in Louisville. Taje a ride on the Belle of Louisville river boat. Churchill Downs (KY Derby is ran, but have horse racing all summer). Louisville Slugger Museum. Lots of great restaurants in town. Stay on the east of 9th street if you go down town. Don't forget Mammoth Cave N.P. and Cave city just outside the park. Lincoln's Birth Place and boyhood home in Hodgenville just off I-65. Lots to see in eastern KY. Lexington area has Keeneland Race track and farm where retired thoroughbred horses go. Go see The Ark Experience. Life size Ark. Cumberland Falls S.P., Red River gorge and Natural Bridge, great hikes. Out western, KY Land Between the Lakes, largest inland peninsula in the US. between Lake Barkley and KY Lake. This is just a few of the big attractions. There are plenty more. Welcome to KY!

Kentucky Gentlemen, Yellowstone, Knob Creek, Jim Beam, and KY Tavern in that order are my favorites. I wish I had tge money to win an auction to buy a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle. It is the most expensive bourbon in the world, made in small batches, it is auctioned by the bottle, and usually runs about $300. I have seen it go for almost $800.

We were at Maker’s Mark probably near the same time you were. We made our reservations about 2 months in advance. We visited 4 distilleries and Maker’s Mark was our favorite. If you buy a bottle of bourbon in the gift shop they will let you dip it in the wax.

Hi Brian and Shawna! I know someone already beat me probably to tell that that kind of horse where that man was on the back back it was called a sulky. I asked my sisters boy friend because he gets into horse racing and all. He says they used to race them. How was the whisky? I had whisky before . It’s nit my favorite so I’m with Shawna. On that one.lol! Sad they ran out of food. How does a restaurant run out of food. It was funny that cat laying on that barrel. He was in a weird position. He must have too much whisky! Lol! 😂😂 That was a nice piece of of whisky history told of they were given a bottle of whisky but they had a subscription. That is weird. Glad you both aren’t in an accident with road being 1 1/2 wide. Can’t fit 2 cars. Thus was a great video. Thank you Brian and Shawna!! See you both soon! Have a great week.

It is harness racing. The horses are called trotters or pacers. The cart is a sulky or spider.

#2 Was NOT a jockey , they are just practicing for sure. When training they put a larger person so when actual rider weight seems much lighter to horse ! Love it I would love to sit and watch them !🥰🥰

Bardstown is another beautiful small town in that area with a Bourbon stop. We’re from Bend, Oregon, but our daughter went to Morehead State University about an hour east of Lexington on a softball scholarship. I love that whole area with the black wood fencing and beautiful horses.

So many good stories from the distilleries. Just after we arrived at Wild Turkey, they had to up their security. Apparently some of the locals drilled holes into the transfer whiskey lines and made away with hundreds of gallons of whiskey. I enjoyed Makers Mark. What makes the tours so special, are the people that work their. They are so friendly and down home. You can't replicate that.

Did you have a chance to go to Buffalo Trace? Buffalo Trace was a lot of free samples. One of my favorites besides Jack Daniels. I have never been to the Limestone Branch. I love the smell of the mash! Thank you for the video, brings back good memories.

My mom loved to go to that kind of horse racing. I've been to Red Mile in Lexington many times while growing up. Ale 8 1, which is what everyone in Kentucky calls it, is made in Winchester, KY near Lexington. Lexington also has Keeneland, which is known for Thoroughbred sales and racing. You can't forget about the Kentucky Horse Park, several horses are buried there including Man O War. They have tours of the park plus there is a campground attached.

I believe the horse was a "pacer" pulling the sulky as opposed to a "trotter".

Both trotters and pacers use sulkies. The difference is that a trotter moves its legs forward in diagonal pairs (right front and left hind, then left front and right hind striking the ground simultaneously), whereas a pacer moves its legs laterally (right front and right hind together, then left front and left hind). The first two were pacers, the one who said hi to you was a trotter. My husbands family owned two trotters.
