As someone who has taken most of the tours on the bourbon trail, I would recommend the speak easy tour at Evan Williams if you plan on doing multiple tours because while most of the tours have their own unique information, for the most part all of the tours tell you the same information. The speakeasy tour at Evan Williams experience is one of the most memorable tours I have taken but I have to say I have never taken a bad tour at any of the bourbon distilleries I have visited. Also if you are looking for a smaller distillery to visit one of my favorites is Castle and Key. They have beautiful grounds and while they are fairly new so they don’t have any actual bourbons ready yet, their first batches will be ready in 2022 and while you wait their other spirits are some of the best!

Good info, I will go back and hit more when the virus is settled down. we went to Wild Turkey Sept of 2020. only place doing any kind of tour / tasting because of covid . I Was looking forward to meeting Jimmy Russel and have him sign a bottle of Russel reserve. They said they are keeping Jimmy out for his safety because he is 86. So we went to dinner at a local dive/diner. Guess who walked in Jimmy and his wife. Got a picture with him and spoke about bourbon as long as he wanted to until his dinner came. What a very nice gentlemen. He made my trip

What a great overview of the bourbon trail, quite an education into the history as well. Sales of bourbon declined every year from the 1970s through 2006, but then began a remarkable recovery and prosperity never seen before. Two things that contributed to that change is that the Kentucky legislature permitted sale and consumption of individual drinks at the distilleries, which had been forbidden, and they also allowed direct shipment of bourbon outside the state. Enjoyed the video.

A really informative and fun video. I had no idea there were so many distilleries and how much time it would take. I love learning the history of places as well. I would certainly vote for you to make a video on how to effectively plan your time to visit as many as possible.
@craigdeross85053 жыл бұрын
Nice job on the video. My wife and I did 13 of the distilleries in Spring of 2019. I actually agree with most of your comments regarding each tour. The Four Roses tour is really good and you learn a lot. We actually did tours on all of the distilleries we visited, which may seem overwhelming, but we actually learned a lot of different things from each one.

Neither my wife nor I drink...and yet we love these types of tours for the history. I watched this to compare what we saw/did with yours. We have not been to all of them, but like Maker's Mark, Jim Beam, and Four Roses tours the best. I would also recommend a tour of Jack Daniels Distillery in TN and for other "food" tours try the Tillamook Cheese Factory in OR, Tabasco Factory Tour in LA, and the Chocolate World in PA.

How fun! We did the trail 9 or 10 years ago. Stayed in a haunted house in Bardstown. Loved watching the ladies hand dip at Maker’s Mark! We also visited Heaven Hill, Jim Beam, Four Roses, Wild Turkey & Woodford Reserve. Loved Kentucky & The Bourbon Trail (and I don’t even like Bourbon) - gorgeous and fascinating history! We named our old Lab Lexie after Lexington, as we were driving by it when my friend was grabbing her out of the shelter for us...

I have been to most of the distilleries and you missed some good ones. In Bardstown you should of stopped at Barton 1792, its a very old distillery and the tours were free, bud saddley they stopped giving tours several years ago. Also you missed Whillett and The Presevation distillery. Bulliet has a new distillery in which is very worthwhile. and just down the road from Woodford is Castle and Key and O.C.D. distillery. Then close to Shelbyville is Jeptha Creed . When I go I plan and make resevations for tours months in advance, and visit 3-4 a day.

@TaffyHawk3 жыл бұрын
Most of them sell bourbon, but at the current demand of bourbon you might have just as good of a chance finding high end bourbons in your area. Some of them do sell bourbon you can only get at the distillery, Maker's Mark comes to mind, I think it's Private Select or something.

Great video! Question: which distillery had the beautiful stained glass ceiling at 1:17? That's gorgeous! :) Also, the limestone content in the KY soil is the reason there are so many cave formations, including Mammoth Cave system. You should consider visiting the Cumberland Falls, known as the "Niagara of the South", sometime soon. Just make sure to check their website for moonbow dates, before you plan your trip. It's the only falls in the Western Hemisphere that create a "moonbow" ( a nighttime rainbow). It's also near the original Sanders Cafe & Museum (ie, the first KFC).

Bourbon tour! Don't really like the spirit but seems very interesting, I love going on tours of how things are made. Favorite so far is the Tillamook in OR and the Tabasco one in LA, would love to do the Ben and Jerry one but seems so out of place, and not sure worth a trip by itself to go all the way up to northeast, but going to try the Jelly Bean one this year. Wonder if they have one for KFC. Kentucky's greatest gift to the world!
