I happen to own a Mark Eubank dulcimer that I had Mark custom make from a special piece of Hawaiian Koa wood along with sitka spruce hand picked by Mark from his stock. It is a true piece of musical art that I will forever cherish. Mark is a master craftsman and a great person who is a joy to talk with about instruments and music!

Modern dulcimers bare a striking resemblance to the German scheitholt (also known as a hummel). Some people theorize that the scheitholt was brought over by German immigrants in the days before the American Revolution, and the folks in the mountains simply tweaked the design to make the sweet sounding dulcimer we know and love today.
