Kentucky's Historic White Bass Run

It always humbles me to witness the abundance despite our tendency to diminish the numbers. I go for keeping two and releasing one until I have 6 fish on a stringer, then keep 1 and release 2. By May, where I fish them I can always get one at 3 lbs, and that one has earned an automatic release. Good Fishing!

It wont last long. I live in Canada and we have filled our home with selfish outsiders so much that the fish numbers are rapidly decreasing. Even carp. These people eat everything and have no care about limits or rules. Mass immigration will be the death of all of us.

I miss the days in the 60'sand 70's in Lake Erie before it got over-fished commercially. White bass from the bank with " shad darts" averaging 2-3 1/2 pounds. Used to feed my family with5 gallon buckets of big white bass, especially when dad was laid off. Showed my honey hole to my buddy behind us. His dad thanked me for showing Dave where to get all those big fish! Felt good about that.

I fish the Sandusky River in Fremont Ohio it comes out of lake Erie. People still go to Fremont in the Sandusky River and fish for the white bass usely mid March all the way to the end of May depends on water temperature and level I fish in the river I wade the river and we catch at least 100 a day

Remember back in the 90's before they got over fished my dad would take me on the Croix and you will see them come a mile a way eating baitfish, you would see hundreds maybe thousands of them hitting the surface. My dad would tell us to get our jigs ready cause they swim past so quick and 1 wave would limit us out.... there would be a couple waves run by til 11ish.

funny that i fished that same stretch for a few weeks straight and didnt catch hardly any. we been fishing that river in the spring for years and this was the worst spring i could remember. water was so clear it almost made it impossible to fish. one another note this years walleye run was fantastic.

Here in Louisiana, lots of people say those are trash fish. That’s not at all what I think, I’ll keep a pile of them! Catch and release into some grease 🤘

Sand bass in Texas. Where I live it's growing so fast I give it up. It's elbow to elbow. Lots of yankees.

Go north to any Lake Winnipeg tributarie. I guarantee you'll be the only one on the river and catching 3lb fish one after another.

Fellows may I ask how do you fix these whte bass for eatin? I’m a yankee and these fish remind me of shad and herring we catch on the Delaware. But I’m not a yankee any more living in Kentucky permanent also my son and daughter- in- law 2 grand baby girls his in- laws and me and my wife. Talkin too much. Sorry. Thanks anyway.

The Crappie do the same thing. We are a few weeks out from the 2018 run, get your light tackle together and bank fish shallow Kentucky headwaters for White Bass and crappie

They come up the creeks to spawn one weekend my dad and 2uncles slayed em on Pittman creek I had to work but they never let me forget

Hart Co. Take Priceville Rd to Briggs Webb Rd and follow it to the water. Once you get to the boat ramp, the other side of the river is Grayson Co. The boat ramp was built and is maintained by the KDFWR, with a gravel lot for truck and trailer parking.
