Dikec's style and accomplishments are awesome. South Korean women's shooter Oh Ye Jin also had relatively little gear (though more than Dikec) and won gold in 10 metre air pistol. More generally, if look at the various Olympic shooters, you can see that their gear varies quite a bit (with Yusuf Dikec obviously standing out for his lack of gear and great performance). The reason is that the gear is much more about what works best for the particular shooter's focus, concentration, and comfort (probably including what gear they use in practice). The fact that we don't see every shooter using an identical rig shows that whatever "performance enhancement" it offers beyond personal preference is limited. Otherwise, basically everyone except Dikec would use the same "optimal" gear. That's why Dikec himself basically explained his technique in terms that amount to "I just like shooting this way" (ie. Using both eyes and putting his hand in his pocket). In this video, we saw that someone whose shooting experience has been *without* the common Olympic style gear, he naturally did better without them because of his comfort and practice.
@elgenetiamzon10623 ай бұрын
Another thing to note is that Yusuf Dikec is former military and was probably taught to shoot that way.

George Patton shot pistols in the Olympics, but used a larger caliber gun than other competitors. He lost because the judges ruled one of his shots missed completely and failed to mark the target. On the Ear Protection mishap: I have a story relating to this. I had just gotten my Smith and Wesson 586 and shortly after, a set of nice Peltor ambient sound ear protection. Normally, with my old ear pro, If I needed to go to the bathroom at the old range I went to, I would take one ear off and let the other one hang there before going in. I did the same with my nice, ambient sound playing ear pro with one crucial difference: I could hear everything out of both ears. Yes, the left ear was slightly off since that was the ear which was protected. I entered the anti-chamber of my range, at which I was the only person shooting at that time, and made my merry idiot's way to my revolver, loaded six rounds of .357 magnum, and pulled the trigger. As the world faded away, my right ear did its best impersonation of the most popular letter in the English language, the letter E. For several minutes, my ear would not stop informing me that the letter E was quite excellent, and above all other letters it could ever impersonate. When the ringing finally stopped I was at home, in bed, and very, very annoyed with myself.

Physics teacher here... Looking through a pinhole makes the image look sharper. Its scientific! In fact if you lost your glasses and your eyesight isn't insanely bad, making a small pinhole out of your fist can help you see (or if you want better clarity). That said if you have perfect vision, whether naturally or with glasses/contacts, it probably won't help much of sharpening what your focusing on. But another thing it also does is the exact same as a camera. Seriously take your camera your using and take two photos, one with an fully open aperture and another one with it small. Depth gets blurred with a large aperture whereas with a pinpoint you can have the gun and target both in "relative" focus. The issue is though, how do you normally shoot? Two schools of thought, focus on front sight letting target being slightly blurry or focus on target letting sights be slightly blurry. Either way, if you switch to using the an pinpoint aperture to bring them more into focus, you aren't use to it.

Uncle had a 1,000 acre gravel pit in Upstate New York and he was the first person I ever went hunting with when I was 9 years old. He had Three guns that he hunted with. A 54 caliber muzzleloader, A. Winchester 94 with iron tights, And a model 70 in 30-06 with a weaver 4 power scope. He had a square steel Target hung up on a tree 100 yards away that was only like 6 in tall. Every hunting season he would load up each gun and take a shot at that piece of steel and I can't remember a single time where he missed. That's how he made sure his guns were sited in. Sometimes he would show off and shoot with a 30-30 over his shoulder backwards with a mirror. Never seen him miss. He had a little 2-in barrel k-frame 38. S&W that we would always play around with when we slept over there as teenagers. He could ring that target with that tiny little snub now police pistol and he really seemed like super human to us. I miss him.

Considering that the French Olympics have already finished, I don't think it will do much good to petition them. Brandon Herrera edges Scott out though, since Brandon goes into things like weapons mechanics and design...on top of videos recreating assassinations and "community service" like the Gary Plauche video on Father's Day.

You have obviously very limited experience of precision pistol shooting - A moderate club level 10m pistol shooter would consistently be shoooting 540/600 or better on that target. Scott needs to look into SDI and there business model. How do you have an Online Gunsmithing School that has no tools for students to use? Gunsmithing is a trade skill and therefore should involve time in a shop. Furthermore, they prey on GI bills for an Associates Degree that has recognition issues within the industry. Many KZbinrs have dropped SDI for this reason.

8:37 that gear isn’t for performance it’s there to counter eyesight deficiency’s. The blinders are for if you’re not right eye dominant and the iris isn’t for magnification it’s basically acts like an aperture in a camera to shift your DOF so you can focus on the target. The other bit of gear you see is the lens and that’s just a perception lens that you can position so the centre of the lens lines up between your eye and target because in glasses the lens’s distorts at the edges.

I've had a few goes at 10 m. air pistol. That is indeed the standard target that you see in this video. You get 60 minutes to fire 60 shots with the highest possible score being 600. One thing that I can tell you is that a 2lb. pistol gets very heavy after a while when you are precision shooting. My scores were in the low to high 200's. The world record is a staggering 594. Just think about that for a minute. The only way to achieve that is to hit a 7/16" portion of the target 54 times with another 6 shots hitting the 9 ring. Incredible.
@maximilianmustermann57634 ай бұрын
I said it in another post, if Scott could keep up his 44 out of 50 for 40 shots (lower-level tournaments) or 60 shots (higher-level tournaments), his result would be 352 (for 40) and 528 (for 60). That would be very respectable results, although it wouldn't even nearly get him to the German championship, let alone the olympics. The qualifying number for the German nationals was like 570 last year. And then, 40 or 60 shots is not 5 shots. You can make 5 good shots, but then do it again eight or twelve times in a row. With the 40-shot series, the pros often shoot more than 400 because the inner ten-ring counts more than ten, it goes up to 10.9 for the inner X. The fact that the rings drop to 594 for the world record shows you how much these additional 20 shots are eating at your accuracy.
@davidbrayshaw35294 ай бұрын
@@maximilianmustermann5763 You know a lot more about it than I do. I've played the game only a few times. That's enough for me to know that anyone can string together a few good shots. As you point out, doing it one after the other in a timed event is another thing altogether again.
