IMHO as a big 2A guy, these things are a fucking nightmare for our rights. Guns need to look like guns, people don't need to be sneaking a flashlight gun or a phone gun into a venue.

@@legionof0ne441 Legally, something that doesn't look like a gun is restricted. It's an "Any Other Weapon" (AOW) in the NFA and requires a tax stamp to own. That said...gun rights are human rights. Do you object to ordinary concealed carry?

They've always been weird. This design is very much like the old Reliant tear gas pens. You could get them via mail order for about $3.50 when i was a kid (no permits or restrictions of any kind back then, would ship USPS). Rumor had it that those were originally designed for use by the CIA (a sterile version) but never found any confirmation on that. People back in the 50s would build homemade 'zip guns', single shot tubes that worked much the same way.

I drew up the mechanical drawings for a Maglight machine gun design 30 years ago and now I am seeing a shotgun design; bravo Scott. I never pursued my design because I always thought of Maglight firearms as a very limited niche market and they weren't legal in California where I live. California law looks at these in a similar light as pen guns.

I hab something like this 25 years ago!!i‘m from austria and we have pretty strict gunlaws but one wa to shoot legally were these so-called highliters!!they lookd like a small flaschlight and you loaded them with 8 mm flobert!!and the shot woud set off a shotgun round wich was placed in the front in a little onscrew cylinder!!!!

Great ! i'm making a zip gun !! Actually , I've made one just like this that fired 12 ga. primers. I cut away everything down to about a 1/4/ " . They make one HELL of a bang! and no projectile.

Great opening skit! Guns were much more destructive than I expected at the beginning. I think the accuracy issue has as much to do with a short barrel, as with just flinching when firing them. If they had some type of trigger (even a button), I think they would work much better. Either way, just a very cool gun. 👍

I’m a third-hand source at best, but if I recall correctly, some gun-stat guys were all uppity with Scott about something regarding speed/energy regarding calibers. That eventually led to him setting up to use chronographs again… except that was not his real intention. Thus, the chrono destruction began.

Scott. when that lever is in the right slot the "safety" is on. and that little movement to the left should not fire of a round. drag the lever all the way back and it should release it self as a trigger releasing the hammer :)

One slight improvement on this would be to have a led ring light with the barrel through the middle so you can fire it whilst having the torch still lighting the target rather than having to turn the torch around to fire

That's funny as hell! Zip guns go commercial.😂😂 When I was a kid, we made one that fired shotgun shells. After about 4 shots with it, I fired it and it blew up in my face and damn near blinded me. Four foot shooting distance. I had a crazy range experience as we had the big guns and this black guy said he has a cheapo 9mm that can't shoot like that. We asked him to give me a try. I brought the target forward to 10 feet and let er rip! I told him, "It did that job for me." He told us we scared the H E double toothpicks out of him. He had now had the idea that most home shootings happen in 10 feet and his gun was fine. We got him better trained for the area he was living at. Get a six cell Maglite with a krypton bulb and you won't need to put a gun it it. Freaks out the unruly neighbors and will be banned from any camping venue.
