Awesome head unit, I think this is gonna be the unit to replace my Sony XAV-5000. 4 features I wish it had, the ability to turn off the amplifier section to make this a deadhead/ or no internal amplifier, a DAC module that can be upgraded, 31 bands eq per channel, and 8-10 channel rca output, to allow for 3-way active front stage, rear doors, and Sub out. Those are the only features Kenwood could add to make this even better.

If you are looking for something comparable to this now in 2024, The MaXpeedingrods Q96 for under $200 on Amazon is a standard 2 Din Android head unit with almost an Identical feature set to this Kenwood, In almost every way. Especially the sound features. It has 4 sets of Rca outs, Front, Rear, Sub and a center channel for a full 5.1 set up, as well as all the EQ and Cross over settings like this Kenwood has, including the ability to change the lay-out to a 3 way speaker config. It has great audio quality and a built-in 4 X 25 watt rms amp also. ( I've been researching the best audio and DSP quality bang for your buck in a head unit like crazy lately as I'm about to buy one, I settled on this Q96. after seeing the price on this KenWood is $1,300 Lol

It would be really cool if this had parametric eq for the left and right channels separately. I'm not so worried about the rear as it's turned down for a little bit of rear fill anyway.

At 5:12 you talk about the camera interruption. I don't want the front cam to come on everytime I slow down. It is annoying. Mine is set to off but it still does it. Had a shop install it. They have tried to stop the function and are supposed to talk to kenwood to get some answers. Do you think mine is defective or is there something else that would cause this to still function when turned off? Thanks the videos are awesome guys keep it up.

LDAC Bluetooth sounds killer! Not too many components have this Bluetooth protocol due to it being a SONY proprietary technology.

I would call that a active 2 way not an active 3 way setting..maybe I'm wrong but a 2 way is a woofer midrange in one with a tweeter then a sub..a three way active would be a tweeter, midrange, woofer and then a sub...

When you plug your Android phone into USB, does it automatically disable wireless Android Auto? The reason why I ask is because Tidal Hi-Fi disables their hi-fi quality levels to "normal" anytime it uses Bluetooth. In fact, I have to turn off my phone's Bluetooth even when I have my phone plugged into my OEM Sony stereo in my Explorer to get the best available SQ they offer.

It’s truly a beautiful display, physically speaking. I’m just not a big fan of their GUI. They put so much stuff on the screen at once so the letters are very small, and it just looks very aftermarket. If I could have Sony’s GUI on this display I would be one happy camper. Of course Sony still needs to add a bunch of other features to be at this level. Such as support for data maestro, an hdmi input, and multiple camera inputs.

@pitis2flie Agree 100%. Sony's GUI is clean, simple, and modern. Kenwood's GUI looks like something that was designed with a 1990's aesthetic. It's a jumbled, confusing mess with kind of cheesy graphics & color schemes. But as you said, Sony's head units lack a lot of the great features of these Kenwood XR units.

I just installed mine yesterday, you can use any camera pretty much. I ordered a little Natika brand camera that I ran to the front grill of my truck. And the Kenwood dash cam -it’s made for these radios and they have a lot of cool features.

Hey, mine doesn't go straight to the home page whenever it turns on. It always opens up the guages application. But I have it disabled in the rr2 and the old option is off in the radio settings. I can't get it to go away. Any idea what that's about??

I just installed the DMX1057XR in my 2005 Toyota Tacoma. I installed a new air bag that is designed for steering wheel controls. I was able to install steering wheel controls from a 2006 Toyota Camry, to find out I need to change my steering wheel clock spring, to plug the control in. My question is, do I need to install a new clock spring from a Toyota Camry also?? if so, will my Toyota Tacoma wire harness be compatible with the Toyota Camry clock spring?? Or what brand of clock spring do I need to install to make the stereo controls work? Thanks for your time and any information.

I bought one open boxed from ebay. I guess it was used but it looked brand new. All of the installation stuff was never opened. I think it is no good. It keeps restarting when I let it sit over night. It will sound like the music is skipping and it will just turn off and back on. Once it comes back on it usually will not have a problem, but it is annoying as hell. It looks like it already has the latest update. I know there is nothing wrong with my wiring. I'm probably screwed on getting my money back and will probably have to send it for repair. I don't have anything extra hooked up to it, no steering wheel controls or idatalink, just backup camera. It seems to work fine for the rest of the day after it crashes

​@drjd2real are you using android auto. Did it do it in just Bluetooth mode. I've noticed my wifi will get interrupted in areas that are emitting strange signals. But won't shut it off in Bluetooth. Pretty sure a lot of people have had it happen and think the unit is faulty.

If you still havent upgraded, yes, I imagine its possible. This unit allows for 4 cameras, which is essentially what provides the birds eye view. You'd probably need an iDatalink Maestro

I think there's enough built-in to get good sound but if you're wanting to go active of a set of components then I'd say an outboard dsp processor would do much better.

KZbin doesn't even consider 720P HD any more. So how are they claiming this screen to be high def? My Phone has 4X the resolution. Well I guess it keeps the coast down.

@@webberfan1234 I don't think I'll ever use a TV for my viewing pleasure. For the last 10 years I've been using computer monitors with a HDMI input. The image is so much clearer, no screen door effect and when it says "4K" it really is 4K, instead of TV's kind of faking it with upscaling and the screen door and claiming 4K. The smaller the pixel pitch the better the image up close. Just wish they would start using Phone screens pixel pitch on Monitors and TVs. If a TV had the pixel pitch of the new phone screens I would finally consider buying a TV.

@Northern Dirt where are you going with this? I didn't mention 4K as HD, 4K is UHD. 1440P is QHD, 1080 is HD. And 720 isn't considered HD anymore by PC standards. 720P and 480P are in the same boat now.

@@stringsattached67 I think that an actual 1080P FHD screen would be great for this 10" display...(Full HD which is 1920 x 1080). Nearly all smartphones currently have significantly smaller displays with even greater resolution and no one is complaining...in fact it is simply expected that a smartphone have At Least a 1080P FHD display otherwise it is simply disregarded. The problem is that Kenwood (and other head unit manufacturers) would actually have to step up their game and start using a CPU and GPU that costs more than 50¢ in order to adequately display the higher resolution graphics and animations. :-/ They've been using these ultra cheap and "just good enough" CPUs, GPUs, and Displays to keep their manufacturing costs super low and profit margins high for far too long. Sure, that's the goal of any smart business, but at some point you have to step up to modern standards otherwise your products become completely irrelevant and will no longer compete. The main reason that putting an iPad in your dash has become so popular in the car audio enthusiast community is because it's a Large Display that has excellent Resolution and clarity...i.e. "Retna Display". If the resolution of iPad displays were low, "blocky", and pixelated, NO ONE would consider going to the trouble of putting one in their dash. Kenwood was smart to offer the first HD 720P 7" double-DIN display to the market. Having that screen makes a HUGE difference compared to the long outdated standard of 800 x 480, and the sales #'s of the Kenwood XR units with these displays reflect that. But they are still far behind and below the standard of resolution and quality that has been set and available in a $400-$500 9.7" iPad, which have been available for many years now. When much smaller and higher resolution displays have been available for several years even in lower tier $200-$400 Android smartphones (Huawei, Oppo, OnePlus, etc.), people start to expect and demand better from other $1000-$1600 products that also include a display. It's exponentially more difficult and expensive to manufacture a small, ultra-thin 5"-7" high res smartphone display than it is to create that same resolution in a much thicker 9"-10" display which requires far less pixel density. A counterpoint to this argument is the screen in the new Tesla vehicles, which is 17" and has a resolution of 2200 x 1300, which is not much better than FHD 1080P (1920 x 1080), but is still acceptable to the general public. So there's that.
