According to Kenya Railways, some 7,000 passengers have so far traveled on the newly launched Madaraka Express between Mombasa and Nairobi, the highest number ever recorded in one week.
The first phase of the Standard Gauge Rail service, which was launched on May 31, is currently operating with scheduled passenger trains from Nairobi and Mombasa running on a daily basis.
Kenya Railways announced that plans are under way to introduce the intercounty trains that will make stops at seven railway stations.

Nice to see large demand for passenger services but what is really needed is more cargo ,cargo cargo.This SGR train ought to be a commercial success with far more cargo haulage.
@tonyc5384
@tonyc5384 7 жыл бұрын
It should and I am certain it will, but cargo is boring and distant to most people. Videos and reports like this help to promote public interest in utilizing the service, validating the investment, and get people excited of the possibilities as the train line extend further into other regions.

Are you joking or just delusional, I am from UK and have travelled in China, UK might have invented the railway, but it is now a shadow of it former self, China has built 36,000 miles of high speed railway in the time UK has built 45 miles, your "I hate communist China" thing shows ignorance of a country that makes UK look like a 3 world country 😂🤣🧐

Unlike everywhere else, there is no environmental review, right of way issues or quality control. Put those restraints into play and the build out would be delayed for years. Don't expect any help when a flood or earthquake hits and the system is fucked for years.

Better than metre gauge. But as Rwanda and Uganda have said it need to be electrified like the Ethiopian Railways then you will get better reliability more capacity and you can't be held "over a barrel"! You will then have a compatible African Standard: 1435mm gauge electrified at 25kv ac 50hz

Yes, Africa needs to develop faster than ever now. Many people treated us badly in the past, collected diamonds and resources cheaply and even used people as slaves. No time can be wasted since African people should rise in every way in industries, technology, and education. Time wasted is what's bad, so we must invest in our own country (Malema: Africa is one people) for bright future.

See, today's Philippines for it's debt situation for example. "New Philippine Debt of $167 Billion Could Balloon To $452 Billion: China Will Benefit" www.forbes.com/sites/anderscorr/2017/05/13/new-philippine-debt-of-167-billion-could-balloon-to-452-billion-china-will-benefit/#34379f3a2fb6 Note: China again. All these investments are not free. They are loans. Learn something from the experience of Srilanka and Pakistan. The debt will be too much that it would make no sense to run the operations and then the Chinese will request for an Built Operate Transfer model. They will essentially be running your train system. All those airports, seaports they are building are also the same. At the end of the day, they will station some naval ships at your seaports for your own "protection", your seaports will become their naval base, your Trains will become their plunder wagons stealing your resources. All those development loans are going to politicians' pockets and programs without any plan or income. Essentially, they will run your country in thirty years time. Lucky thing is, you will be able to see it in front of your own eyes.

the railway station is a China style, but the train is slow train with ballast track, it's very useful as it much much cheaper, and also the automatic ticket checker is shutted down, as i didn't listen the sound di di di di di when passenger pass by, no need any railway staff in front of ticket checker when it's normal. and the uniform staff wear is also similar with that in China. i guess the train speed maybe 120km/h. good luck. Be stonger, Be faster.
