They can't borrow to steal any more. They have to overtax to steal. Unfortunately they reached a tax cap where they simply cannot tax more and doing so simply HURTS the economy and the people. They will have to cut back on the budget and decrease government spending (example; shut down non-essential departments, cut in half the military, stop new road constructions, etc).

Ruto did not inherit any taxes from the previous administration. He WAS the previous administration's the Deputy President who, together with the President, approved loans including the Eurobond of 6.1 Billion dollars and the SGR Loan inflated by over 5 Billion dollars. So Kenya ha illegal odious debt and the youth and the rest of the country are demanding an audit of the loans, the budget, the central bank and the treasury. Youth are also demanding their right to be present in parliament like the US Congress observers who were in the parliament during the reading and voting of the Tax bill by MPs. Thus the hashtag @ Occupy Parliament. GenZ are an intelligent well educated and tech savvy generation and Kenya is blessed to have them leading the protest which is a right enshrined in the constitution of Kenya under Article 37.

I’m a Kenyan. Ruto didn’t just ‘inherit’ the tax burden - he was the deputy president in the last administration & embezzled DEEPLY. He’s personally responsible for (what’s publicly known) for *USD 773 million* theft. And that’s just what we know from his last administration. He single handedly crumbled the maize sector due to his corrupt dealings that farmers are still reeling from to this day. As an example, every day Nairobi county loses *USD 773,912* in cash. Cash! The former governor came out recently to admit that revenue collection in cash is carted away in bags *every day* by cronies. In recent tax proposals, he wants to raise prices of basic items but grant helicopter owners tax. Is it a coincidence that he’s one of the largest helicopter operators to the government & leases them out hence granting himself and his cronies an unnecessary tax break? Is he above tightening his belt on his wants while almost 40% of payslips go to a profligate government? How can that be yet we want to squeeze more juice from this stone? It’s budgeted corruption & the populace can’t bear it. The issue isn’t really taxation. Kenyans would bear the brunt if we thought it was actually going to help dig us out of the hole. But that’s far from the case. At heart, we are carrying a heavy debt burden for extreme, EXTREME theft & this can’t go on. We have nothing left to tax. The only people left w/ room to absorb tax is the connected crowd that’s benefited from his largesse in the last year and a half. We can’t carry this burden anymore & watch people steal like there’s no tomorrow. We have no services, school feeding programs are cancelled, no money for public utilities yet he’s parading himself globally as this paragon of democracy. THAT is what the civil action is about. You can’t steal everything then tax us to death. It’s one or the other or the boat sinks w/ all of us in it then.

They passed the 2023/24 finance bill and claimed it was a miracle bill that will cure Kenya.. it added alot of taxes. They said collecting more taxes was the solution. 1. It failed! It ended up making life hard with no apparent gain. 2. Despite adding taxes they still continued borrowing heavily which was the whole pitch, raise taxes borrow less. 3. Zakayo and his cronies started splashing money with expensive and frequent trips with huge entourage.. and giving a minimum of 30M to their churches every Sunday as donations! Clearly that money isn't coming from their pocket because this is a farely new behaviour, used to only happen during campaign seasons with money embezzled but now I guess they can afford to give weekly. 4. We are still adjusting to the failed 2023/24 finance bill/act and now they are adding even more taxes on top.
