The first time that I had a chance to see the Beamer Brothers in person was on Maui in the early 1970's. It was at the War Memorial Auditorium with just Keola and Kapono and their Mom, dancing her beautiful hula. Sigh... that was back in the simple days with no big fan fare and a simple stage, in front of the drawn curtains. The tickets cost $2.50 each and the theater was not even full. That was the day I totally fell in love with their sound and music! I was familiar with their music from the radio, but this quiet intimate setting was life changing for me. I can remember them playing The Beauty of Mauna Kea which transported me to the Big Isle & it is still one of my favorite meles.. I heard and felt every word sung or spoken. I feel so lucky to have "grown up" with them as their music advanced. But, nothing will replace that magical day when I saw them in person!
