I did notice that two freight cars I delivered to Ela station the previous day are still there. Do they not disappear once you've delivered them? Or do they re-use the same freight cars when you take a new way bill for the same destination?

Minor note, it doesn't seem like the triple valves on the cars have an emergency portion. Anything above a 26PSI reduction doesn't net any more air in the brake cylinders. This seems intentional since the locomotives do seem to put 90 pounds in the brake cylinder, but the 50s seem like an awfully odd period to have both first generation EMDs and freight cars without emergency.

From what I understand the time period is kind of loose so we get a wider range of locomotives. This game is also more about operating a railroad so some mechanics are simplified.

So basically you have an automatic boilerman who heats your locomotiv, throws in the coal and watches the water lvl. You are the engineer and the manager and can hire ai engineers to help if you want.

Thanks for the vids! I think I'll probably buy in Early Access just to support the devs. One thing; I'm going to have to consciously work at not being annoyed that they're being called "Engines" rather than "Locomotives". Steam or Diesel engines provide power to locomotives. Small detail, but it's going to bug me. Otherwise, looking forward to playing and watching your play-through.

You can turn your engine on a turntable or on a wye. On the first part of the railroad you have when starting, there is a wye at East Whittier

It appears to be a hybrid of Derail Valley, Railroads Online, Snow Runner (fixing bridges &c.) and a DCC model railway. As an 'Early Access' game (which we all know can be both good AND bad) is it worth the 25 Eddies they want for it?

Whether a game is worth it is entirely subjective. I think it is worth $30USD even in early access, but that's just my opinion. The core gameplay is there and works. I have only ran into minor bugs in 30+ hours of play, nothing game breaking.

I think the best description of the game is that it's a model railroad simulator. There's enough depth to be immersive but simple enough to be fun. Like a middle ground between Run8 and Train Sim World.

When you start a new game in company mode it will start a tutorial. Go through that and read each window carefully. Also check out the in game guide, it has a lot of useful information as well as key bindings. There are icons in the top right for the guide and tutorial. You will need to move the loco and tender to a coal loading facility. The tutorial shows you how this works. You can move a dead loco with another loco or if you're close by standing in first person and pushing (Shift+R)

So isn't the air break functionality backwards? When you blead the air the breaks are on not the other way around. An air break system need air to release the breaks. When you bled the coal car tank empty it should have had its break on full not released.

That’s for trucks, rail car air brakes work differently. Each car has a reservoir and when the air pipe connecting all the cars is reduced an equalizing valve drops the pressure in the reservoir tank by sending that excess air pressure to the brake line. So when you dump the air pipe, it charges the brake lines. This is why bottling air in rail cars is dangerous. It will apply the brakes, but several hours later when the air pressure bleeds out the brakes will release on their own, so bottling air leads to a false sense of security. When you bleed the whole system it removes that air from both reservoir and brake line and releases the brake shoes.

@@konstantin7754 To apply the brakes in a train you reduce the air pressure on the brake pipe. You might hear an engineer talk about making an 5 pound reduction or something like that, that refers to reducing the air pressure in the brake pipe by 5 pounds. I don't know if dumping the air is properly terminology or not, but what I was talking about above was just another way of describing making a big reduction. In railroader you will notice that your train brake has a "90" on it. 90 psi is pretty common in North America to be charged, brakes released state of a train. As you slide that slider to apply heavier braking, the number will reduce. Reducing it to 80 would be a 10 pound (psi) reduction.

They both have trains. DV is fun but more gamey in a made up world whereas Railroader is based on a real shortline. They're both great fun!

The game has a great tutorial if you start in company mode. Ctrl click on a locomotive or car to bring up the inspector window. On a locomotive you then click the Select button to bring up the controls.

Sometimes my coal car got handbrake or cylinder but I can't release it althoght I use the cylcock lever. I think my PC's lag at the first time, and I try the sandbox mode, go to the internet game to try but can't fix it. Please help me!!

I'm not sure I understand your problem. The handbrake is either on or off. The cylinder cocks have nothing to do with brakes and are used to let moisture out of the locomotive cylinders. They are only for looks in game. The angle cocks are by the couplers and let air flow through the brake lines into the brake pipe. Perhaps you are confusing the two?

Hey Kerbo I'm not sure it's an exploit or a feature, but another streamer (I can't think of his name but he has very long streams) showed that you will get a report every day at 6pm. If you wait until 6pm to buy contracts you can go up to Tier 3 and you will get your 25% discount. I know it's too late for you but just so you know down the road and others.

Game is intresting but... have one fucking problem. I can't buy a simulator who look more bat as a strategi game. Transport Fever 2 have one of the most well done train, so in that case why they do some nice game with so poor maket train... In these fame detail must be as in warthunder.

That was mostly incomprehensible, but I think you're unhappy with the level of detail? There are tradeoffs between great graphics and great physics/simulation. Computing power is finite. That's one reason why you have fantastic physics and detailed simulation on a large scale but dated looking graphics (Run 8) or great looking graphics with poor simulation and poor physics (Train Sim World).
