When you get to the ironworks be advised loading tools is quite janky. You'll need to elevate the track so the crane can swing the tool crates into the boxcar door. If the track were left at ground height then the crates would end up on the roof of the boxcars and not work.

I've been watching most of your videos, I use them to give me ideas sometimes. I bought and have been using the Heisler sense the first days (it was my first purchase) based on it's weight, traction, and others. I do mountain grades at like 3% Plus, the regulator is like 12% (give or take), it isn't the fastest, but it is the Mac Truck of all engines... I recommend for all mountain trains. Worth every penny.

5:08 I had a much milder thing happen to me last night. Track I’ve used since I started playing the game, for some reason my cars kept derailing on it over and over and over. On a now derelict route I used to use going up to the iron mine. I took a similar route you have done now but made a gigantic trestle bridge across that ravine instead of the route you took snaking around it. While being a bit of a mess it does look really cool from afar and going across it

Im building a route on my friends server that may be a bit pointless too. I thought i would be able to build a route to the Smelter from.the Sawmill via the deep valley in the north because I thought i would get away with a shallow gradient. Although it is only 4% on one side, on the other it is 6% with a short section of 10% in the middle. It's now the bypass route since it was too hard to double track the traditional route and it's only used if there is another train on the single track section. 😂😂😂

Kerbo, your trestle is fine. I like it. And there were trestles that were much more daring in reality. Nothing bad about a good, stable wooden bridge construction. And you see? Wood as material is there. The amount of stone for one of those long walls would be in reality some Chinese Wall event. And never forget about the wilderness. There are animals that have to pass through here or there, there are trappers or natives that have to pass through and you don't want to anger them, don't you? Much worse than an angry Indian tribe would be some spring flood coming down the mountain and meeting with your impassable stone wall. First there is a puddle then there is a pool, then there is a lake and then there is no railway anymore. Trestles are fine, Kerbo. Every trestle you set up is a pale vegan Swedish Girl crying for the trees. An under-educated Swedish girl who doesn't know that bamboo are a grass plant, not trees. More trestles! Give us trestles like there your soul is depending on it. A small stone wall here and there to make it believable from the engineering, but trestles, trestles, trestles! „Trestles! HOW DARE YOU!!!1einseins!!“ - Greta T.
@launcesmechanist95783 жыл бұрын
I don't have you beat on the trestle but I just finished my route from the logging camp to the sawmill and sawmill to depot so now I have a wye. My route from camp to mill is just one huge trestle that starts off even with a slight left curve, builds up into a 3% grade and right hand curve, loops around the giant hill between camp and mill, has a stone wall section at the crest of the hill, and then a -3% grade trestle going down int a left hand curve straight to the mill finishing with a flat trestle and some platform tracks to drop off logs. I put the stone wall section there as a reminder to shut off the regulator and put on some brakes. Once i get the engine plus two cars on it, physics takes over and it can quickly become a rollercoaster.

I just laid almost the exact same route yesterday. Before I forget, if you ever need help with lining up cars for loading. Place ground work that's in line with the center of the cranes and stretch it under your track to the other side. With mine as long as the wheels are just on the line of stone it'll load that one and the other crane can load the car behind it.

Given that we can only build in this game and can't blast the terrain, and that we have these hard-stops (like 3 degree inclines), there's gonna be some silly bridges. Personally, I like building my cliff-hugging bridges out of stone wall, but it's no less preposterous. I've got a suspicion the game engine will make it nigh-on-impossible for the devs to implement terrain blasting. I really like that you call out the badness in the game and praise the goodness. I too would love to see a "Shift F" to get you out of the cab without changing the controls. (And a million other keyboard shortcuts too) Recently I've learned the trick of laying out the whole line with plain old variable grade, about 2' lower than where I expect the actual line to be and use that as a scaffolding to build the actual line. Dramatically simplifies things.

@RJdeVries843 жыл бұрын
I've noticed when building long bridges with a 3 degree (or any degree for that matter) incline, is when you increase and decrease (or vice versa) the grade it changes the altitude of the end dramatically, probably more towards the desired amount of degrees set initially and not about a degree over (a 3 degree is more a 4 degree bridge when build)

The compressor not taking any steam out of your system is (from a realistic standpoint) thanks to the pop valve. If 10 units of steam are produced, and the regulator takes 5 units under full load, then 5 units will escape through the valve. If the generator takes 2 units under full load, then 3 units will leave through the valve. So either way, your consumption will be 10 units.
@KerboOnYT3 жыл бұрын
Like I said, I tested with low boiler pressure so the pop-off wasn't in the equation
@TheBlackob3 жыл бұрын
@@KerboOnYT Oh, Ok, I missed that part with the low pressure.
@billyp48503 жыл бұрын
Also, I don't think the pop off uses steam either. Only the regulator uses steam. Park a locomotive for hours with no fire in it (therefore no steam being made) and the boiler pressure remains exactly where you left it, even if the pop off is open and the compressor is running. I panicked about the Climax and Heisler not having a hand brake, but it doesn't matter as the compressor runs for free, and the boiler pressure doesn't drop unless you try and drive around.

Unfortunately all of the wheels in the game on the tracks just don't sit right except for the drive wheels and tend to do a lot of funky things if you really look at them and pay attention to them which drives me absolutely nuts sometimes. And I have found when playing the game for long periods of time a lot of the track physics mess up over time and how things interact with them for what ever reason and I end up having to shut the game down and reload a save to get everything back to normal again. But I had an interesting surprise last night on my line I had a car break away from me and run all the way down my line from the top of the Iron mine route down to the smelter without derailing so I guess I built a heck of a line to have that happen and god knows how fast that car ended up running down hill! OH MY LORD! Actually your new way of going to the mine looks pretty good but seeing how much of a perfectionist you are I should not be surprised by that. You are way too late on the power. ;) The "secret" is to _keep_ momentum. As you just have a 3% grade the Mogul is able to pull itself out of it, but you need to have a little bit more faih in your track laying abilities and take the 30° curve on the trestle (as an example) a little bit faster or go to 100% regulator earlier. The beams and lumber is still quite easy. For me the issues startet with 10 empty(!) hoppers. If I have time, I'll make a video on that...
