I had an epiphany while watching this exact episode 8 years ago. I had just started college and was going into nursing, but I felt unsure about it. While watching this episode, and this exact clip of Mr. Turner, I realized that my true calling was to become a high school English teacher. I changed my major the next day, and now I currently teach in a suburb of Chicago. People always ask the question, "When did you first realize you wanted to become a teacher?" and I always feel silly saying that it was while watching Mr. Turner in Boy Meets World lol but it's the truth! :)

I went into a career in medicine. Became a doctor and then changed course to teach because somewhere inside me, I kept hearing Mr. Feeny from my childhood saying "do good". I have now been a med school prof for a number of years and this is my calling. Mr. Feeny always directed people down the right path, real or fictional.

I didn't get to see much of Boy Meets World growing up in the 2000's, but the few I did get to see were pretty amazing. The one episode I remember most was the one where Eric was acting like a big brother to Tommy, but had to let him go to California. When I saw the episode Mr. Squirrels goes to Washington I cried buckets during the reunion scene.

If I were a teacher that's the kind of assignment Id give. A piece of classic literature compared and contrasted to a modern comic, give the students a way to engage and understand something they might not normally read through the lens of something they know. And occasionally a $30 gift card to the local pizza place for whomever I feel did the best job.

Mr Turner becomes Shawn’s father figure, Shawn becomes Mr Turner’s son figure and it will always be this way. The way they are with each other has my whole, entire heart forever. and like all of Shawn's fathers, Mr. Turner just disappeared one day. The last we see of him in Boy Meets World is when he's in the hospital after a motorcycle accident. The Werefrog always thought he died there until the graduation episode where Minkus comes back and calls out to an off screen Mr. Turner.

Turner was awesome. He was a really cool teacher without being the kind of so-called teacher of today, who are more interested in being friends with the students as well as indoctrinating them. He was cool, but he still demanded respect and was no nonsense. You can be both!

You can only be both as long as you have the support of parents. Unfortunately, today, a lot of parents want to completely tie the hands of the teacher and not let the teacher run their classroom in the way that is actually in the best interest of the student. You see these school board meetings where you get these conservative Karens complaining about how they don't want their little angel exposed to different ideas and different points of view. If Mr. Turner were around today and tried something like this (making students read a comic book as an assignment), you'd get Karens emailing the principal (and maybe even the central office) complaining about it, and the principal would probably take the sides of the parents because of political pressure.

I read the Odyssey in High School, 10th grade English. My teacher said about Odysseus "typical male, won't ask for directions". She even signed my yearbook saying "I'll always remember you'll agree that Odysseus would have been home much sooner if he just asked for directions".

Doesn't embarrass the student in front of the class like numerous of teachers do nowadays - maybe they just are angry because they are underpaid, engage well with the student but at the meantime doesn't make sure he isn't taking advantage of. I loved seasons 2-4 so badly exactly because of this character and his relationship with Shawn and don't get me wrong, but i hated when Shawn came back to his father. Why did they take him away, this show wasn't the same anymore. I thought, that i'm gonna like it when Eric, Jack and Shawn move in together, but i didn't. Shawn's and Mr. Turner's bond was just brilliant, they loved and needed each other, Mr. Turner is just gone😢😢😢

Mr Turner loves Shawn with his whole heart man, he really cares about him and it honestly shows. Shawn and Mr Turner’s father-son relationship makes me beyond happy. They’re so blessed to have eachother, it’s beautiful. I definitely see what you mean, but whether they stayed together in the same home or not, they were always there for eachother and their love never died so don’t worry. Mr Turner will always be Shawn’s father figure and Shawn will always be Mr Turner’s son figure. Although Mr Turner wasn’t on the show anymore, I’m sure the story teller would’ve wanted us to know that Shawn’s relationship with Mr Turner will always be there and will never be erased. 🥺❤️

Eli was only there for Eric’s run as a weatherman and kept pushing the kids to act like they were on tv, so they write him off saying he went back to being a tv producer, and Mr. Turner was written off because he took away from Feeny as the main teacher-student dynamic on the show...plus as Shawn got older, he didn’t really need a caretaker as much.

It is impossible to read odyssesy in one go. I had to read it twice. First time we read specific passages and another time we read the whole thing but it took a few weeks. That first assigment should have just been to read x men that night and then startbon odyssessy the following week.
