KERLI + Shadow Works | Documentary | PART II
Kerli’s latest album Shadow Works speaks to our darker side. It is closely related to Kerli’s personal experiences of returning back to the rural life in the nature of her home country, Estonia, and being able to fully know and heal herself through years of solitude in the nordic wild. The documentary raises themes as solitude, nature, ancient Estonian magic, DIY lifestyle, the creative process, and most importantly, discovering oneself in the full spectrum of life and making peace with the darkness.
A more intimate look into Kerli’s world allows us a rare view into her creative process in the woods of Estonia and hear stories of years spent in the fast-paced entertainment industry of Los Angeles.
This documentary has Estonian, English, Russian subtitles.
Filmi juures on saadaval subtiitrid eesti, inglise ja vene keeles.
Смотрите фильм с русскими, эстонскими и английскими субтитрами.

I love how she says you need that quiet space to not have anyone else’s thoughts in your mind to find your own thoughts.. that resonated with me on such a level because it can be hard when you’re constantly living in a state of mind of trying to make other people happy. I feel like I’m only alone with my thoughts during meditation but then I’m not supposed to be thinking of my thoughts.. lol probably the best when I’m making art.

Love Kerli’s creative expression. It’s so different from everything else out there, and getting to see into her world, and doing her own costumes and everything. You are a true artist, Kerli. ☺️ I also do strongly agree with you about Shadow Work. It’s something most people fear and suppress because we are told it’s bad. But we can’t just always look at the light side and ignore the darkness. We need to find balance within both.

So much wisdom. Life is not all light and positivity. It is powerful to be able to confront the dark, the uncomfortable, the unknown. Because it's ALL Divine. This is what Ma Kaali shows us. Being able to confront your shadow self, and love those parts too, is so crucial. As humans we try to always run from discomfort, but we should train ourselves, spiritually, so we are able to sit with those elements of ourselves with love.

I'm an entertainer myself and this reminded me of when I went through a similar life changing metamorphosis of my own a few years ago. KERLI's song "Bulletproof" had a massive impact on helping me through that difficult time. My life all of a sudden very quickly took off and I went from being totally unknown to flying around the world doing events and photoshoots and people wanting to take pictures with me and calling themselves my "fans". I was also in a toxic relationship at the time and I had a revelation almost. As if I just wokeup one day and saw myself and who I had become and it scared the heck out of me. After ending that relationship and moving back home to my small country town in Louisiana, I reconnected with my southern french roots (which I had always rejected before). It felt like an important part of me was missing. It was about 6 months of near total isolation and self discovery before I felt I could even be around many other people or out in public at all really. I hadn't actually been truly alone in years even though most of the time I had felt lonely. That journey of self discovery changed me completely. You always see in the media how "fame" can take a toll on a person's physical and mental well being, but going through it first hand (even on a much smaller scale) was truly eye opening. It's very easy to lose oneself when you're constantly being watched and critiqued and having your every move broadcasted to the entire world. Kerli, Thank you for sharing! - Josh
@KERLImusic
@KERLImusic 3 жыл бұрын
Good to hear about your transformation, Josh! I also believe fame is quite a toxic thing unless handled extremely consciously. For me as well, the first year in the woods felt like the upper layer on my skin was missing and every time I'd have to go to town or something, I was freaking out so much, Even a car just passing me by felt SO noisy at first. But now I'm at like year 5 of this cycle and I feel like an old powerful tree...not even introverted anymore the way I used to be but love having people around often etc. Much love on your journey!

Your amazing talent, authentic style, wonderful musical abilites, and way of looking at life is very inspiring and has helped me in my life. Without darkness, there would be no light. When something becomes difficult in life, I just listen to your music. It makes me to look at life from another perspective and makes me stronger aswell, also makes me handle the darkness easier. For example, when I first heard the song blossom, it was truly a healing experience, like a religious experience in some ways. Butterfly Cry too, I cried a lot, and felt a lot better afterwards and the tears were a part of the healing process, cause sometimes we hold down our emotions, your music helps me to come in touch with them more. It really healed some parts in my soul, a lot of your music and art has this healing feeling to them. Thank you for making my life better. You are truly magical, never stop doing what you do cause your an amazing inspiration for a lot of people. Your music makes the world a better place.

One really is forced (or has the oportunity) to face our darknesses (worries, reactivenesses, fear etc) when faced with being told by the medical world one's life may be shorter - than one thought. I've been witnessing my hubby and his brain cancer journey~ I notice I can feel grim in his infusion treatent; sort of new for brain cancers/tumors ... see everyone in room doing their own treatments ; BUT I also can gently set my fear and sadness aside(not ignore) & see the life that is STILL in these folks. See them and myself & hubby just in the moment - a little smile or chitter chatter of a new meal, one had energy to make ..... realize everything IS. Their journey is theirs and I dont need to soak up so much pain and suffering thats around me; but I CAN be me, and send blessings of calm or peace (in my mind and heart) to each I see. Love this part of your documentary I had a chance to see : ) many hugs to you hunn!!

Wow this is really strange, but I just went through shadow work, integration of the personality in totality. And I am wearing black today. I usually don’t 😳👍🏻🥰 So I really resonated with this. It just popped up on my phone for the first time so I clicked on it. Thanks Kerli! Sometimes it’s like we are the same person, 😊. ❤️You. I left my job and all my friends to help me do this. I moved 3000 miles away. It was difficult even though I am naturally highly programming resistant. I lived in my car for the last year and a half never staying long in any one spot. I can totally relate to your own words and experiences. It’s been the hardest I have ever worked in my life and I did not have a job during that time. Congratulations to you for following that true path. I am sure it’s much harder because of all the attention you get from people who think you are one thing or other when clearly you are so much more than that. We are gods, yes. All the love. ❣️
