Just in case this happens again, Dawn dish soap gets out oil paint really quickly. Basically you need some kind of soap that “cuts grease” so you can break down the oils from the paint and remove it. Source: personal experience. My cat likes to run through my oil paint while I’m painting.

Artist here, use dawn and toothpaste. It will get the oil paint off his paw. Also on your table use turpentine to get the paint off and then clean it profusely with your regular cleaners. If it gets on any fabric, its not coming off, sorry :/

Turpentine will damage wood surfaces; stained or not. Best to find an oil that will replicate the orginal wood to lift the pigment or cut the oil with dawn like you said. Either way, also best not to over saturate your wood furniture too.

Heads up if this happens to anyone else, "scrubbing" with a bit of cornstarch, then warm water & soap works too for oil paint. The cornstarch soaks up the oil rather then smear it like other liquids do. I'm a painter (usually use acrylic but use oil too) & my dog is constantly in my lap while I'm painting so I've had to struggle many times getting paint out of her fur, lol.

Just dilute it a lot and use as little as possible to get the oil out because you don't want to risk any soap residue getting left in their fur/feathers. That's probably why jenna and julien opt for the coconut oil because if they don't get it all out the dogs won't get sick. don't use oil on birds though very bad for them.

FUTURE KNOWLEDGE, dawn is great for washing oil paint off of most things (example brushes) what you want is to get most of the paint off his foot will stay died orange/ yellow for a while (like white brushes when you wash them may still be that colour) honestly and really good grease cutting dish soap works pretty good. ALSO HORSE SHAMPOO IS GREAT. Cleaning with the coconut oil was a pretty smart idea (logic like that is actually in art conservation since you use protein to break down protein based stains). I recommend you look at the back of your paint tubes though and check the health labels since a lot of people do not do this (I work in an art store in canada) and make sure the backs have an AP health label and if they have cadmium without a hue afterwards that it does contain that substance and it can cause cancer due to inhalation/ absorption into the skin,make sure your hands are extra moisturized so the paint does not soak into your skin if you still want to use the colours. Not a lot of people talk about the health concerns to customers since they assume that they have looked it up on the internet before buying (same with some art vids on this site to be blunt) and honestly it is something that more people should be aware of.😊😊😊

*Oil paint tip for the future:* you can get out almost any oil paint with odorless turpenoid. It’s not meant for human skin or dog skin but you can use it quickly and then use coconut oil and water to get the turpentine off. An artist always needs turpentine to get oil paint off their hands, clothes, and furniture. Also I would NOT leave oil paint out at night!! It WONT DRY QUICKLY! In fact it won’t dry for like 2 days! So clean it up with turpentine and put the paints somewhere safe where the dogs can’t get them. (Or give it to this girl lol) Side note: your painting won’t dry for like a solid 2 days so keep it in a safe place OR put it in a warm place. The oil will dry quicker with heat from a blow dryer (it’ll still take a long ass time) or a hot room is best. You’re welcome in advance.

I’ve actually had to do this with a cat who not only got it on all four paws but also on her fuzzy butt bc she sat in it lol use coconut oil to loosen oil based paint (or olive oil, the oil breaks down the paint) and then use Dawn dish soap to clean it off. Wood tables just use boiled linseed oil, and soak a rag or washcloth in it then press for a like 30-60 seconds, so the oil can soak into the paint n break it up, and it should just wipe away, alternatively mineral spirits work to, but this is if the paint dries so you don’t ruin the lacquer. If its droplets you may be able to use a credit card, butter knives could leave gouges, so a flat somewhat sharp edge could scrape it off. Alternatively windex can be used to get stains out of furniture fabric, and carpets, just make sure you get the excess or it could cause a different stain lol 😆
