Sergei Sikorsky Visits FoF - Part 3 of 3 - Messerschmitt Bf-108 & Seversky P-35
As promised, here's the surprise added Part 3 of Sergei's visit! Hope you enjoy . . .
It was a special treat, and my pleasure, in February 2020 to have Sergei Sikorsky visit Fantasy of Flight. He was there to film an interview for an upcoming IMAX film on the adventures of Martin & Osa Johnson, and their plane expeditions into Africa and Borneo.
Of course, I used the opportunity to do some interviewing myself, as we walked around my facility, and viewed some of the planes in my collection.
In Part 3 here we continue viewing some of my collection, specifically two planes that I thought would be of great interest to Sergei . . . The De Seversky P-35, and the Messerschmitt Bf-108.
I'll say it again . . . Cool stuff!

How cool is it to have an aviation pioneer come to your shops and give you and us his stories of his experiences with your aircraft. It brings the old birds to life. He flew and enjoyed these birds when they were cutting edge in aviation. It makes them more then just things sitting in a hanger on display. In San Diego my wife and I spent an entire day on the MIDWAY, One of the most interesting things about the ship were the stories told by pilots who had been stationed on her It made the ship more then a huge pile of steel. She was a living breathing old lady, full of people who loved her and had served on her. I was in the Army and you know I never felt that way about two and a half ton trucks.

Thank you Kermit! This was so interesting to hear the guy who was there tell us the inside stories and first hand accounts of the history of a great American company like Sikorsky. Only in American, can smart hard working Russian imigrants with a dream and a chicken farm create world class aircraft and helicopters company, that have saved millions of lives over the years! Kermit, thank you for your love of history and getting this interview before these great guys have passed. Please keep doing these in person interviews where you let the guest speak and you give them all the time they need to remember historic facts that would soon be forgotten if they were not caught on film for us to see.👍👍. If I may suggest, can you get General Mike Collins, and any of the old timers from ww2 and Korea and even Vietnam area Aircraft manufacturing on to give their insites into there experiences in the manufacture and flight of our great American Aviation history? The Mechanics and designers and fabricators have some interesting stories too. Again, thanks for your possitive attitudes and appreciation of Aviation history. We must never forget who we were as a nation so that our great " Can Do Sprit" carries on to the next generation. We need it! You and your crew are leaving a great leggecy Kermit! 👍👍

You could almost see him remembering the factory floor where they were built. I was hired to recover a Semi truck in 2011 that was abandoned just across the highway parked by the BBQ place that i don't think is there any more. One of my biggest regrets is I didn't come over and visit at the time. Been toying with the idea of moving down south and finding a Sailboat.
