“...I’m only doing this, because Justine isn’t in any fit state to read the news at the moment” I love that you can then hear Justine, the newsreader, killing herself laughing, at Kermode’s wonderful one man show haha. I’ve seen several of Mark’s reviews, where he has her, and other in-studio people, laughing their heads off, at his hilarious reviews/rants. I was lucky enough to see Dr. Kermode at a live talk he did 7 or 8 years ago, and he was fantastic.

I KNOW WHAT KERMODE'S ON ABOUT! I had to watch this over a friend's house when I was the only bloke in a room, and was gritting my teeth ready to hate it, and James Bond singing Abba badly was an absolute car crash...but...I couldn't hate it! It was so much fun and the songs are so good (Despite being massacred) that I wound up enjoying it despite being utterly dreadful as an actual film haha!

Heh, that segment with Kermode pointing his finger up saying "it's like the world turns around and..." at about 8:30 (which Mayo correctly remarked made no sense on radio) reminded me of a funny Frasier moment: (in a serious tone on his radio show) "What's important, is what's in here.... I'm pointing at my chest now".

One of Mark’s best reviews, (obviously Entourage and SITC2, are in a class of their own.) I feel exactly the same way as Mark. I’ve loved the songs, non-post modern etc, since buying the albums in the 70’s. And I had the same effect watching the movie. I ended up loving it but couldn’t work out why.

Yes is the editing and cinematography chaotic amd jarring? Yes is Pierce's singing tragic? Yes Is this one of my favorite movies that i've seen this year? Yes

ok, i take your point on the technical aspects of the film. and yes it wasnt a very cenematic film, but i didnt think there was anything wrong with the camera placement. on the artistic front, there was nothing wrong with the acting or the writing, all the artistic intentions were met and paid off. "it was what it was" and what it INTENDED to be...and some people need to remember art is INTENTION and not what the audience WISHES was up on screen, ie you can't judge what isnt there.

I love Abba. It's important that I say that first. I thoroughly enjoyed the stage show of Mamma Mia, which I saw twice. The film isn't as good, but it's very entertaining, and funny (thanks largely to Pierce Brosnan's "singing"). If you're going to see the film, you MUST leave your cynicism behind, which AmyMarieDaws didn't. Mark Kermode is spot on. He started off wearing the critic's hat, but was won over, but it's far from high art. It's his second greatest review, the best is POTC3.
