People complaining about the place don't really know. Fact of the matter is... it's a beautiful place to visit and a lot has been done over the years to help deal with the problem of people leaving trash. Trash issues are a thing of the past. It is a very fun outdoor adventure type of place to go... Lake, river, mountains, biking, hiking, camping, just tons of fun with a cute little town at the center.

I was at the river and Kernville the day after the 4th of July this year and both were in pristine condition. I was shocked that any municipality could clean up that fast after a 3 day weekend. Truly a hidden gem, I love that whole area.

This year should be a rolling river due to rain and snowfall this winter. Got a room booked already!

1 - golf course is now closed down 2 - you can no longer mountain bike on the Johnsondale river trail 3 - hot springs closed 4 - just outstanding trail completely consumed by fire 5 - most years the water level is so low that you are rafting on rocks California forest management and water management has destroyed this once pristine area

We're going soon! We haven't been there for 19 years. We're celebrating our 25th anniversary, and our cat daughter's 19th birthday. Can't wait!!

Good thing the golfing was at the end or I would have turned it off. Or maybe you should put it at the front so no more people flood the town!

Went through Kernville about a month ago.. To be honest? Wasn't impressed. It was pretty trashy... All the river turnouts in the area were loaded with trash and graffitti. I ended up picking up more trash than I did fishing. If you like to swim, go.. if your'e lookin to fish? skip it. The drive over the Sherman Pass toward the Owen's valley was cool though.
