Hey friends! I've been reading your comments and I'm really glad you enjoyed it!! This was one of my favorites to make, it really showed how far I've come since the previous retro game I review. I know a lot of you are wondering what I'm working on next, and it depends! I'm waiting on footage for my Sonic Boom review from my friend, so whenever that comes I'll get working! Otherwise, I'm gonna go play some Pokemon XY and hopefully make progress on that review. See you all soon!

You took the words right out of my mouth.. X3 Pixel was what got me into loving the Indie Gaming, thanks to playing Cave Story on the Wii. I loved it so much, I got the PC, the Steam and the somewhat disappointing 3DS Version. And I like other games of Pixel's work. He's got a unique style that I find enjoyable. ^^ I want to try this game. Thanks for showing me its existence! Now to spend spend spend! And As for your next review.... Which Cave Story version are you reviewing?! The Improved Graphics but Disappointing Soundtrack Wiiware version? The Disappointing Graphics but Improved Soundtrack 3DS Retail version? The ones that are there on the DSiWere/eShop Version? The Perfect collection Steam version? The Original free one that started it all version?.... ... ALL OF THEM!????

i always had the feeling that the name of the channel was based a bit off of cave story dont know if that feeling is right but by this and some subliminal messages in your older intros i am leaning towards it anyway you reviews are always fun to watch just cause you actually review a good amount of the aspects of the game and you also dont just bash it. not being bias is probably the best thing of a reviewer good job

"Catdude's" name is actually Sasuke. A long time ago, Pixel made a small manga series about a white cat named Ame. There was also a black cat nearly identical to the one in Kero Blaster, and his name was Sasuke. So I guess that's a bit of trivia :p lol

This is a pretty good summary of this game: It's decent, but it doesn't do anything that hasn't been done by other titles released before it, let alone Pixel's own Cave Story, which was released over a decade before it, let alone other retro throwbacks released the same year. Also, no downwards shooting was a major problem for me since some enemies were placed in a way that would require the ability to shoot down without risking falling into spiked plants, but I already said my piece in my own review of the game.

You always say that you want honest criticism, so here we go: I think you have improved A LOT. The first video I saw from you was "Nintendo 101 - The History of Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire!" and looking back at your videos from that time, its unbelievable how much you improved. Your writing, your editing, everything. I also really enjoy the changes you made with BGR(especially the visuals, but what else do you expect from WhaddupNico?). This might just be one of my favourite episodes yet. You get out all of the important information and are able to tell us some personal things about you. You are honest with your criticism, and aren't afraid to tell us if something sucks. Also, you are the only reviewer I know that actually cares for the god damn eShop!(On that note: I would love a Review of Steamworld Dig.) Since I follow you on Twitter, I also know how much time and effort you put into your videos. Which is just impressive. You don't just rush 'em out. You work on every single one until you feel it's perfect. That deserves a lot of respect. With all that beeing said, I wish you a great time at MagFest. PARTY ON, BUTTER BOY!

I like how Pink Hour is basically a hardware test/advertisement for Kero Blaster. Seriously. Getting the best ending (where to return the "important document" to the president) plays a cutscene where pinky buys a copy of Kero Blaster. When the cutscene finishes, it opens up a web browser to Kero Blaster's page on Playism.

A game that looks promising is Super Rad Raygun, which is basically a retro platformer that pays homage to the Gameboy. You basically play as a robot Gameboy fighting against the Soviet Union in the late 1980s. The original game is currently available, but with only 5 levels. The Super version has 25 levels and will be the version that arrives on Steam once it's finally finished. I do recommend taking a look at it, even if you just want to watch a couple of trailers to see what it will look like.

The game is about Pixel's work in code cleanup at a printer company. The Negativus Legatia are representative of legacy code that needs to be "cleaned up" by salarymen like Kaeru. The president becomes more monstrous and irritable as the code gets out of hand and causes more problems, representing the tension Pixel's life caused by legacy code and the unrewarding nature of programming janitor duty. The black cat and the pink blob are co-workers at the company tasked with different fields of work, which is why they never accompany or otherwise help Kaeru besides telling him assignments. Note that in Pink Hour, the blob's goal is to retrieve the President's paperwork, not to kill the optional boss. And if you fail, Kaeru returns the paper instead, showing a clear competition between employees to keep their respective jobs. The "work-producing machine" is a literal printer, which makes the metaphor all the more clear, as it creates all the overtime work keeping Kaeru and co. from enjoying their vacation in Zangyou Mode. Maybe Pixel was taking out his anger at the company, or felt horrible working on code for devices that produce paperwork other salarymen would have to deal with. Zangyou Mode itself is also literally an "overtime" mode: it's an addition to the game that Pixel didn't need to add (this making more work for himself than was necessary), and one that extends the player's time playing the game, doing the same kind of work for longer.

If I could summarize August 2014 in two words It would "Cave Story". That game was my life that month! And I've never heard of Kero Blaster before :O Can't wait to play it :D
@hiimmeurnot5 жыл бұрын
"Kero Blaster is only 7 stages long... ...as well as a new game plus, but it's pretty much a palette swap..." This is not really accurate. To explain why would be sort of spoiling part of the game, but if you're worried it's too short: the game has seven levels, but there is a second playthrough that revisits those seven levels. However, this is not just a "you still have your weapons" or "the enemies take more hits" new game plus. This is 7 levels that are similar at first and become increasingly different towards the end from their previous counterparts. They all have drastic changes to make them more difficult, and include more enemies, new enemy types and new bosses. Even the cut scenes between the levels reveal a new story. It can really be viewed as the second half of the game, concluding with a 5 stage boss fight. None of what I just mentioned is the "new game plus" that Balrog references; he's referring to the THIRD playthrough, which is indeed essentially the same as the first set of levels (minus one heart and including your prior upgrades) with a new weapon, and boss rush at the end. I liked this video but I also feel that it did give the game enough credit for how finely tuned the level design and enemy behaviors are. The core systems in this game are minimal, just like the graphics, but the game really has no flaws. Many games are ruined (or are never finished or released) by being overly ambitious, but Kero Blaster does something simple and does it perfectly.
