I cried and cried and could not get this out of my mind for days... spectacular acting. I’m raising two mixed grandkids. My granddaughter watched this with me. She’s 12. It’s important to not sugar coat life. My grandson is 13 and a bit cocky.. not a good way to be when black and pulled over.

White mom of a black son and a mexican daughter. I could not stop crying after watching "American Son" Kerry hit every raw nerve of fear for a momma like me. I reccomend it to anyone, especially white people who have no idea how incredibly scary it is to think of your black son growing up, looking like a man, a black man. The nightmares that wake you from the dead of sleep. This movie speaks volumes.

The movie wasn’t supposed to be something exciting and wonderful it was meant to be about the reality of what young black males are going through. You will never understand until you have experienced it. I remember my parents having a conversation with myself and my siblings about how to react and behave during a stop. That is not a conversation that should be normal for any parent to have about the police who are here to protect and serve to their children. It is a reality not just a movie!!!
