I have made many inquiries to numerous pre-fab builders, two main issues seem to be: 1. don't ship to your area 2. sorry, can't tweak that (and for no good reason) Also I was surprised how many were reluctant (or couldn't be bothered) to give me specifics. I eventually gave up and bought an existing house. Kerry, great channel. thank you.

Have enjoyed watching your channel, your tours and humor, plus your videoing style (non of that frenetic camera movement that others seem to do especially in smaller homes,the walkthrough, etc). Would be interesting to see some of the model homes actually set up in a permanent settings, especially if they are being offered as hospitality units. Thank you, looking forward to where you venture to in 2025.

I always love hearing about anything from my hometown of Abbotsford BC... I happened to have delivered some light fixtures to Hewing Haus before my old company shut down. I asked if he was building tiny homes because I watch that kind of stuff on youtube, then he promptly gave me a full tour of the shop. That's the only time I met the guy, but he definitely seemed like he was excited about what he was doing and happy to show it off.

Best interior would be the Fjord 4:04 Such a nice layout and roomy (17' wide certainly helps) Best exterior would be the Holo with the extension over the front deck 7:15. I know it's small unit, but I love when the front of the building is pushed back inside to create a deck with wood accents. Actually, there were several models with this feature, even Kerry's #1 is a bigger version of it. 11:31

I’m not sure if you’re looking for new content ideas for your channel, but it could be really interesting to create a detailed price comparison between buying prefab homes and having a local builder construct something similar from scratch. You could break down the costs step by step, covering aspects like the foundation, materials, labor, permits, utilities, delivery, and assembly costs for the prefab option. To make it even more engaging and informative, you could sit down with a local builder in one of your videos. Together, you could go over the real-life costs and challenges of building a comparable home, discuss the pros and cons of custom builds versus prefabs, and even get their professional insight on timelines, quality, and potential hidden costs. This type of content would be incredibly valuable to your viewers, offering both expert advice and a practical comparison. It could also spark great discussions in the comments as viewers share their own experiences and questions. With some research and collaboration, this could become one of your most insightful and impactful videos.

Please can you check out some prefabs that ship to Europe or are already available for purchase in Europe. Turkey has some of the most affordable and well-constructed prefabs. Bear in mind that Europeans live in much smaller homes because building land is much more expensive due to the relatively high population density compared to the USA and Australia where there are still large areas of rural land available for development outside of the major cities. Even Canada still has a relatively low population to land ratio outside of major cities. The whole of the British Isles land area would fit into one US state, sometimes multiple times, so we need much smaller prefabs with clever use of space and preferably stackable ones due to the relatively high cost of building land. There is probably also a demand for these much smaller prefabs in the USA cities where land is also hard to find and much more expensive. All the best for the New Year!

It would be so helpful to know about each of the prefabs you tour, as much detail as possible about the type of construction and the materials (which you do say at least to some degree). I am specifically on the lookout for metal frame construction, (probably steel frame or light gauge steel frame), with a pitched roof (probably standing seam) with a large wraparound overhang, and preferably no OSB, no interior drywall. The materials used and the type and quality of the construction are more important to me than even size or layout (or storage!). I’m looking for something made entirely with materials that cannot support mold growth. Also, low offgassing and high ratings for indoor air quality. I’d also love to hear about the factory build standards of the companies relative to one another. Which are built with a high degree of precision and which are more schlocky? What are the quality differences in terms of the windows and how the windows are installed - I’ve found a lot of problems with window installation in construction generally. How are the prefabs holding up for customers after years of use? Which ones develop leaks, cracks, etc., which do not? Your videos are a huge help in terms of knowing what’s out there! And I appreciate your humor in the videos. Thanks!

@2:11, I loved the look of that, but the inside was disappointing as I felt the owners were not making the best use of all that space. @3:54, didn't care for the outside, but liked how the kitchen was off to the side and didn't dominate the space. The living room was also a decent size and there was a good amount of storage. @8:06, that is another great looking home making good use of the wood, right down to the furniture making side projects. @10:02, I absolutely loved this one. The number one spot has what I would be looking for - the tucked away kitchen has everything that you need - and the living space doesn't have lots of windows that make furniture placement tricky.

Most of these are setting up shop to capitalize on rising construction costs and they come in 20-30% cheaper. Existing homes are their competition. Needs to be 50% the cost of custom built IMO to make the prefab industry a more serious choice. Until then, I'll wait for the drop in used home prices.

Just watched the full video on the first home you showed. Dude, that doesn’t seem like a livable space. There’s a microwave and no stove or oven. Not much counter space or space to store things like a hot plate, electric kettle, toaster oven, rice cooker or whatever. No dishwasher which is fine, but also no real space to place a drying rack to dry your dishes after a meal. A microwave is obviously the primary method of cooking which makes it harder to eat fresher foods, but also the fridge is tiny and almost no freezer to store things you buy that can be cooked in a microwave. No washer or dryer. So, all your laundry is done elsewhere. And, very little closet space. So, frequent laundry trips to wash almost everything you own and can store at once. Where would you store a hamper, by the way? Where would you store bedding if you had clothing put away? One or two blankets, one or two sets of sheets, and two pillows. There’s pretty much NO WHERE for these things outside of the one closet space. You’ve got at least a handful of shirts and pants and socks and underwear and a couple layers for winter months, right? Where would the bedding fit if you own clothing and also have the bed folded up? How are you going to do work on that table? There’s not really space for external monitors and also a keyboard and mouse. And where do these things go when the bed folds down? How would you entertain? I don’t mean a half dozen friends for a party. How about a date night? You sit across from your date and someone has their back to the TV? You both use the bed as a couch? If you do that you need something like a backrest. The two pillows for the bed won’t be enough. Now you need space to store a backrest to turn your bed into a couch. And, it looked like there wasn’t really room to walk past the bed while it was down. Plus that TV is tiny and practically up at the ceiling … and no real space for a soundbar. So, you only get the bad speakers on the small TV. I couldn’t tell. Was it a composting toilet, or did it actually flush with a connection to a sewer line or to a septic tank? Just wondering if the composting toilet is 3ft away from where my head is all night and where my company would be resting to watch a movie. I like tiny homes. This isn’t a real option. Fine for a night or two. But, this isn’t a place you would want to live unless you had some other more substantial space to use as a kitchen and as a place to hang out and to work. I’ve seen van conversions that seem more full featured.
@infantryrecon101st6 күн бұрын
Sadly the prices for these just don’t make sense might as well just build a house for the price of these, most of them could probably cost $30k and the company would make money on the volume sold instead of way overpricing them they won’t sell as much.
