First thoughts nice looking knife, think makers are jumping on the bandwagon calling everything Barlows, to me the ratio of handle to bolster is wrong,Old Barlows had longer bolsters and definitely strong pulls, was this made as a working knife or just pretty to look at, as its blade length over three inches not one for UK anyway, good honest review Kershaw made a mess of this one.

If you are going to make a work knife it has to have a very strong pull or make it an old fashioned liner lock with the brass block with "press" on the lock like the old Schrade's had or a back lock like Buck.
@ThriftyKaniffy2 жыл бұрын
That would help, but why not just a strong spring. And don't make the linerlock interfere with the grip and make it uncomfortable to use if you do go that route.

It seems to me that making a knife with a decent pull should not be a difficult part of the manufacturer’s process ...Have you ever tried the trick where you hit bolster with a mallet to tighten it up?
@ThriftyKaniffy2 жыл бұрын
I have. Unfortunately, if it does fix it, it's a sure way to have the pin become clearly visible. In the end though it's the spring that's the problem, whether the heat treatment or the material, or perhaps the dimensions.

Love the looks of that knife. Would be a great knife to have, and can live with the fact that it doesn't have a super steel or lock. What I can't tolerate is it is made in China. Same goes for Queen, Rough Rider, Marble, etc.

If that knife was a lockback, I'd have one. Too often, slip joint knives with blades over 3" have weak springs. I can't stand a slip joint knife that might close up. I like for a slip joint to take a reasonable amount of effort to open or close the blade with a loud snap........like my Taylor's Eyewitness Barlow that was made in England.
@ThriftyKaniffy Жыл бұрын
I agree, but too be fair the Taylor's knives have some the stiffest opens of any knife I own. Even an improvement to near that level would go a long way to making these better.

If you are into traditional knives I’m surprised that you did not go with a knife maker known for making traditional knives like Case, of GEC. 40 $ for a traditional knife is a steal. You want a quality knife but do not want to pay a quality price. I would expect that knife to be closer to 100.00 $ To have a really good build quality, and polished gigged cow bone.
@ThriftyKaniffy2 жыл бұрын
There's plenty of great traditional knives at $40. While Case and GEC do make quality knives, you don't need to spend $100 to get one. If Kershaw had made the spring stiffer this would be one perfectly well made knife. Follow the channel and you'll see plenty of such examples.
