Kesar Da Dhaba, Amritsar | Couple from Assam in a 107 Year Old Restaurant Having Famous Punjabi Food

We visited the famous Kesar da dhaba in Amritsar. This is over 100 year old vegetarian Punjabi dhaba and one of the most famous eateries of Amritsar. The place is super crowded most of the time. We tried the Paratha Thali here. The thali was huge and is sufficient for two light to normal eaters. The parathas were nice and went well with daal makhani and chhole. The taste was good but I am not sure worth the hype. The lassi and phirni was good too.

Kesar Da Dhaba originated as a small restaurant selling dal and roti set up by Lala Kesar Mal, a Punjabi Hindu in Sheikhupura, near Lahore in 1916. It moved to Amritsar after the partition of India in 1947. Lala Lajpat Rai, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Padmini Kolhapuri, Yash Chopra and Rajesh Khanna are said to have eaten here. It is a small dhaba, in a narrow lane in Chowk Passian near Town Hall.
Its signature dish is dal makhani (dal with butter). They are also known for phirni served in earthen bowls.
Anthony Bourdain visited the restaurant as part of his Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown series.
